關于 vSphere Bitfusion

VMware vSphere Bitfusion 共享圖形處理單元 (GPU) 等加速器以提供共享網絡可通路資源池，進而支援資源密集型人工智能 (AI) 和機器學習 (ML) 工作負載。vSphere Bitfusion 可在 AI 架構、雲站點、網絡以及虛拟機、容器和筆記本等環境中運作。

vSphere Bitfusion 的工作原理是什麼？

Bitfusion 要解決的是以下問題：

• 有些團隊在利用機器學習進行研究時沒有 GPU 可以用來加速學習速度；
• 而另一些團隊已經擁有了 GPU，但是他們沒有完全利用 GPU 的處理能力，很多 GPU 資源在白白閑置。

Bitfusion 把 GPU 資源集中起來，組成 GPU 資源池，然後共享給大家使用，這個方案分為兩部分：

• Bitfusion 伺服器：把 GPU 安裝在 vSphere 伺服器上 (要求 vSphere 7 以上版本)，然後在上面運作 Bitfusion Server (以 OVA 格式提供的 virtual appliance)，Bitfusion Server 可以把實體 GPU 資源虛拟化，共享給多個使用者使用。
• Bitfusion 客戶機：Bitfusion Client 是運作在其他 vSphere 伺服器上的 Linux 虛機 (要求 vSphere 6.7 以上版本)， 機器學習 ML (Machine Learning) 工作負載運作在這些虛拟機上，Bitfusion 會把它們對于GPU 的服務請求通過網絡傳輸給 Bitfusion Server，計算完成後再傳回結果。對于 ML 工作負載來說，遠端 GPU 是完全透明的，它就像是在使用本地的 GPU 硬體。

What is New in vSphere Bitfusion 4.0

Added support for NVIDIA CUDA 11.2.2, NVIDIA cuDNN 8.1.1, and NVIDIA NCCL 2.8.4.

Added improved scheduling to run workloads on specific sets of GPUs or vSphere Bitfusion servers.

Added data retention policy to specify a time period to store historical vSphere Bitfusion data.

Added monitoring plug-ins to determine the status of vSphere Bitfusion servers.

Client authentication tokens can be published from vSphere Bitfusion to Kubernetes Secrets.

vCenter Server Dark Theme is now supported by vSphere Bitfusion.

Support for Ubuntu 16.04 clients is deprecated in vSphere Bitfusion 4.0.0.

Support for vSphere Bitfusion 2.x.x clients will be deprecated in vSphere Bitfusion 4.5.0.
