Birmingham boss Zola announced his resignation as manager

On April 18, 2017, AFP reported that Gianfrango Zola announced on Monday that he would resign as manager of Birmingham, he took over the club four months ago as manager, but during this period his record of coaching the team was very bad.

The 50-year-old Italian took over after Birmingham sacked former manager Gary Lovette last December.

However, in the 22 games he has coached, Birmingham have won just two, and after Monday's 2-0 loss to Bolton, they are just three points away from the relegation zone and have three games left in the season.

The glorious achievements of Zola's player years have not been copied into the manager's career, but he has not shirked his responsibilities, he told the media after the game and accepted his defeat.

'I fired myself and I'm sorry because I came to Birmingham with great expectations.

"Unfortunately, the results were not good and I take full responsibility."

"I didn't like to resign, but Birmingham should have been better off."

"If I feel like I can't help the players, then why should I stay? If I can't help the team, then the best option is to leave and let someone else take over. ”

"I feel terrible and I want to express my apologies, my work has a lot of meaning, but unfortunately it didn't get good results, which is very disappointing."

He previously held coaching positions at West Ham United and Watford, but has since been involved in England's third division.

The former Chelsea and Italian national team player, who has coached at a number of clubs, was sacked in June last year after just one season at Qatar's Al Arabi club.

In 2010, he was fired for the first time as manager but was fired shortly after, in 2013 Zola led Watford to a defeat to Crystal Palace in the Championship play-offs, he left the Hornets midway through the following season, and in 2015 he was sacked after 10 games in charge of Serie A side Cagliari.
