What exactly is corporate culture?

Corporate culture came out, why didn't it work?

Hello everyone, I am Guan Yin. Today we will learn the definition of corporate culture.

Definition is the source of learning and cognition, and if you define a problem clearly, the problem is half solved.

Therefore, if we want to do a good job in corporate culture, we must first understand the definition of corporate culture.

There are many opinions on the definition of corporate culture.

I would like to share with you a more classic definition.

Corporate culture is the sum of the cultural concepts, business ideas, common beliefs, common consciousness, behavior concepts and moral codes formed in the operation of the enterprise, and all members follow.

This passage reflects the three characteristics of corporate culture: the ideas, concepts and codes of conduct formed in the operation of the enterprise, which are formed by all employees and common.

Today, I will make a more accurate definition: from the perspective of enterprise, corporate culture is the mission, vision, and values.

After 17 years and 50,000 miles, how could Xuanzang obtain the True Scriptures?

Philosophically, there are three questions in life: who am I, where I come from, and where I am going.

For enterprises, the same is true, the mission is the value and meaning of the existence of enterprises in society, and it solves the problem of my relationship with other people.

The vision is a long-term goal set for the mission, as we often call "poetry and distance".

It is worth mentioning that although the vision is a long-term goal, it can also change accordingly with the development of the enterprise.

In terms of values, many business owners will equate values with moral concepts, but they are not.

Values are the rules of the game that a group abides by together, each company can be different, it does not matter whether it is good or bad, only like it or not, whether it is willing to accept it or not.

Values address the rules that companies should follow in order to achieve their mission vision and the code of conduct that can be resolutely enforced.

Theory alone may not be profound enough, but I would like to further explain what is the mission, vision, and values through the story of Xuanzang's westward journey.

The Xuanzang mentioned here is not the Tang monk in Journey to the West, but the historical Xuanzang.

Xuanzang was ordained at the age of 13, at the end of the Sui Dynasty and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty, and there were frequent wars.

Witnessing the scene of the people's unhappiness, Xuanzang came up with his own mission, pudu sentient beings, hoping to alleviate the suffering of sentient beings through his own strength.

However, as he grew older, Xuanzang also found that Buddhist scriptures were scarce in China, and monks in different places also interpreted the buddhist scriptures differently due to translation problems.

Therefore, Xuanzang determined the first vision of life, and traveled west to seek the Fa.

In 627, Xuanzang wrote to Emperor Taizong of Tang requesting to go to Tianzhu, but this was rejected.

Xuanzang was having trouble sleeping and eating, and finally made up his mind to do it even if the government did not allow it.

In 629 (the third year of Zhenguan), the imperial court allowed the people to survive on their own due to famine, and Xuanzang set out from Chang'an to "smuggle" at Yumen Pass, detouring through the western region to Tianzhu.

1. It is better to die one step forward than to live in the next step

The moment he stepped out of the Jade Gate, Xuanzang set himself the rules of this trip, which is what we call values.

In addition to the basic Buddhist five precepts (no killing, no stealing, no adultery, no nonsense, and no drinking), Xuanzang also established a belief: "It is better to die one step forward than to live in the next step!" ”

This is Xuanzang's original words, which shows the firmness of his heart!

After setting the rules, Xuanzang began to go on the road.

The journey to the west is not smooth, and the long journey and harsh natural environment alone are enough to consume people's minds.

More than a thousand years ago, transportation was far less developed than it is now, there were no planes and no high-speed trains, and it was all by horseback or on foot.

More than 10,000 kilometers away, looking out at the endless desert Gobi and the towering plateau snowy mountains, walking in them is as small as a grain of dust!

In addition to the harshness of the natural environment, the harshness of the human environment should not be underestimated.

First of all, Xuanzang was smuggled out of the customs, and he did not have a "customs clearance document" on his body, and along the way, he not only did not get the support of the government, but he would be arrested at any time.

Secondly, the western region is not yet stable, and it is common for people to intercept and kill people in the middle of the road!

After 17 years and 50,000 miles, how could Xuanzang obtain the True Scriptures?

During the Western Regions, there was another incident.

At that time, Xuanzang did not go far out of Ili City, accidentally lost the skin bag for drinking water, and without a kettle in the desert was equivalent to no guarantee of life!

Walking back is the nearby city of Ili, and forward is an endless desert.

If it is a "smart person", it will definitely turn back to Ili, bring plenty of water and set off.

Partial Xuanzang is a "dead brain", he chose to continue to go forward, one day is 4 days and 5 nights!

Days without water drained him of energy.

I climbed forward for dozens of kilometers step by step, and finally found a small pond and saved myself.

What underpins him is the vision of the westward journey and the value of "it is better to die one step forward than to live in the next step".

2. Hunger strike and vow to go west

On the way west, in addition to the harsh environment, there was also the temptation of the high-ranking official Houlu.

At that time, there was a small country in the western region called Gaochangguo.

The king was very much advocating Buddhism, and when he heard that the senior monk of the Tang Dynasty had come, he invited him to stay in Gaochangguo and promote Buddhism with the high-ranking official Houlu.

When Xuanzang refused, the king became angry and threatened Xuanzang to send him back if he did not stay.

In order to show his attitude, Xuanzang went on a hunger strike to Mingzhi.

The king was also a man of love, and he could only make an agreement with him that he could be released, and two conditions should be agreed: one was that the two of them would worship as brothers of the opposite sex, and the other was that Xuanzang would return from taking the sutra to preach in Gaochangguo for three years to promote the Dharma.

Xuanzang gladly agreed, and the king of Gaochang assigned him a few retinues and let him go west.

Escorted by his entourage, Xuanzang successfully arrived at the Tianzhu Kingdom, which is today's India.

He studied the Buddhist scriptures at Nalanda Monastery, the buddhist center of the world at that time.

In those years of studying in India, Xuanzang was not obscure.

Under the teachings of the precepts, Xuanzang successively wrote the "Treatise on the Sect of Wisdom" and the "Theory of Controlling Evil Views", criticizing Hinayana Buddhism from the dimension of Mahayana Buddhism, which caused a sensation throughout India.

At that time, the supreme leader of the Tianzhu Kingdom, King Jieri, could not bear to see it anymore, so he invited the senior monks of various Indian countries to gather at Nalanda Monastery to hold an 18-day debate contest with Xuanzang.

There were about 6,000 people at the contest, including senior monks from Nalanda Monastery, senior monks from other countries, and followers of Brahmanism.

All of them debated only one object, xuanzang.

In the 18-day debate contest, once Xuanzang was refuted, he had to be killed to apologize.

In the face of the questions of the major monks, Xuanzang was always calm and self-assured, answered freely, won one debate after another, and finally became famous in one battle, and was called Mahayana Heaven by Mahayana Buddhism, which is the supreme honor of Mahayana Buddhism!

However, after becoming famous, Xuanzang encountered the same problem in Gaochangguo. The kings of the various countries of India spared no effort to keep him, wanting him to stay in his country.

The same coercion and inducement, high-ranking officials Houlu, but Xuanzang was always unmoved.

Because he had a second vision, to return to China to translate the scriptures.

In 645, Xuanzang returned to Chang'an with more than 500 scriptures.

Emperor Taizong of Tang opened the city gate to greet him, and ordered the construction of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda, which was specially used to store the Buddhist texts brought back by Xuanzang.

He also summoned many high-ranking monks to the Ci'en Monastery to cooperate with Xuanzang in translating the scriptures.

Li Shimin also asked Xuanzang whether he was willing to return to the government, but he was also rejected by Xuanzang.

If xuanzang lived the first half of his life for the first vision, the westward journey to seek the Fa, then the second half of his life was for the second vision, translating the scriptures.

After returning to the Tang Dynasty, Xuanzang almost stayed at home and concentrated on translating the scriptures, doing so for nearly twenty years until his death.

Throughout Xuanzang's life, there are two characteristics, the first life is to understand, he knows what he wants. The second is to live persistently, and he has a kind of attachment that he will not give up until he reaches his goal.

It is also based on these two points that Xuanzang formed his own mission, vision and values.

After 17 years and 50,000 miles, how could Xuanzang obtain the True Scriptures?

In fact, the mission, vision, and values of an enterprise are similar to those of a person, and what kind of value it can lead the enterprise to achieve.

The mission is my relationship with the customer, and what kind of value my existence can bring to the customer.

Values are what the rules set by the enterprise for themselves, the values will not be immediately formed at the beginning, it is from the outside in, first restricting our behavior, and then slowly affecting our thinking, and finally becoming the DNA of the enterprise, feeding us greater strength.

Finally, we summarize that culture is the primary criterion for good companies to think and deal with problems.
