Zhou Chenming, a researcher at the "Yuanwang Think Tank" in military science, said that the construction of underground projects on the Sino-Indian border is to provide a safe living and working environment for PLA troops stationed in remote areas. Zhou Chenming said: "These underground barracks were built in the front line area above 5,000 meters above sea level to serve as a defensive line to prevent any attack from the Indian side. The bunkers could be used as barracks and ammunition depots, while soldiers stationed on the second line of defense lived in insulated composite panel houses with integrated living facilities such as greenhouses and hot water. ”

Zhou Chenming said that the PLA has built a large number of underground facilities for the front-line troops as a safe refuge for the front-line troops, and although modern technology and earth-moving machinery have greatly improved the solidity of the ground buildings, the construction of these underground facilities has not stopped. From the outside, all the bunkers look like dug-and-fill facilities, and some of the entrances are camouflaged.

Last week, China Central Television (CCTV) reported that a medical team from the Xinjiang Military Region of the People's Liberation Army conducted a battlefield first aid exercise at an altitude of 4,800 meters above sea level, with video footage showing soldiers emerging from an underground facility whose exit was covered with camouflage materials.

In January, China Central Television reported that the People's Liberation Army had established the first full-fledged strategic observation post on the Doklam Plateau at an altitude of 5,592 meters to observe the Indian army's every move. The video shows that the post was built above an underground facility that could hold about 12 soldiers.
