Vodafone holds a charity auction for the world's first SMS NFT

Next Tuesday, communications operator Vodafone will hold a special charity auction – selling text messages sent through its network in December 1992 in the form of a concept of non-homogeneous tokens (NFTs). It is reported that the event was hosted by the French Aguttes auction house. Buyers will need to pay with ETH and the proceeds will be donated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Ahmed Essam, UK CHIEF Executive, commented: "We are proud to be able to combine the major technological innovations of the past with today's cutting-edge technologies to help people in desperate need of support. This initiative is a good reflection of our company's spirit of 'hand in hand'".

If the auction goes well, the winning bidder will receive a detailed copy of the original communication protocol (and the world's first NFT concept for SMS), and the proceeds raised will enable UNHCR to help the 82.4 million refugees displaced by conflict and persecution.

Finally, as with all NFT concepts, collectors can declare their ownership of that NFT on the blockchain. As for how much value-added potential there is in the future, it remains to be tested in time.
