Nadal: I have COVID-19 and I'm unwell

[Global Times reporter Xie Jian] Spanish tennis star Nadal announced on his personal social media on the 20th that his new crown virus test results were positive.

After nearly half a year's break, Nadal made a comeback in Abu Dhabi last week. "I tested positive for COVID-19 when I arrived in Spain after playing in Abu Dhabi. Previously, in Kuwait and Abu Dhabi, we tested every two days and the results were negative. My last test was last Friday, and I received a positive test result on Saturday. In a personal statement, Nadal said that he currently has symptoms of physical discomfort, has been quarantined at home, and notified the close contacts around him, "The next trip will be based on changes in the condition, and will be notified to everyone in time."

Nadal's confirmation casts a shadow over the Australian Open, which begins filming on January 17 next year. After losing to Djokovic in the semi-finals of this year's French Open, Nadal withdrew from Wimbledon, the Olympics and the US Open due to injury. Djokovic, who is now ranked no. 1 in the world, has not yet revealed whether he will be vaccinated, while federer, 40, is determined not to be able to participate due to a knee injury, and if Nadal is also absent, the appeal of next year's Australian Open will be greatly reduced.
