[Explaining the core values of socialism] Reading allows me to live with dignity

Freedom: A source of social vitality

Freedom is the source of social vitality and the value ideal of socialism. The free and all-round development of man is the essential attribute of socialism that distinguishes it from other social forms.

The freedom we advocate is not the freedom of the minority, formality and hypocrisy, but the substantive and real freedom of the overwhelming majority of the people; not the absolute individual freedom above the interests of society, but the freedom to be subject to laws and norms, and the equality of rights and obligations; not the freedom to transcend the stage of development and the ability to bear reality, but the freedom to adapt to certain conditions of economic and social development. Socialist freedom is not only the pursuit of the improvement of material life, but more importantly, to ensure that the people fully enjoy the opportunity to develop themselves and realize themselves, so that everyone can have a brilliant life and their dreams come true.

Reading allows me to live with dignity

——Remembering the peasant poet Raven

Is it hard to become a poet?

If this problem is coupled with the three restrictions of "primary school culture", "disabled person" and "quite famous" - a disabled person with primary school culture, is it difficult to become a well-known poet? Then, everyone will agree that this difficulty will rise in a straight line.

In Bazhong, there is such a poet, Raven. Over the years, he persevered in reading and writing, using poetry to hedge against life's setbacks, and finally completed the transformation from a disabled person to a poet.

A sudden accident

"A lot of people think that I only got a little success in writing after I was physically disabled, but this is not the case." Raven says he didn't write poetry overnight, but rather had a long process of decades from hobby to actual creation.

In 1967, Raven was born in Hulu Village, Huacong Town, Enyang District. After attending junior high school for a year, 17-year-old Raven dropped out of school to work. "It started in Shanxi, and then went to Kaifeng, Henan." Raven recalled that although he earned a small income from working in a brick factory, he would buy a few books to read from time to time. Today, in Raven's home, tv cabinets, closets, behind sofas... Wherever there is a place to put books in the house, Raven is full of books. All kinds of books are categorized and stacked.

The person who really guided Raven on the path of poetry was Li Yunjiu, the editor of Kaifeng Daily. At that time, Raven brought his own comments to the Kaifeng Daily to submit, but the review editor refused. Just as Raven was about to leave in frustration, the editor Lee Yoon-joo was touched when he heard about Raven's reading while working, and said that he could help Raven learn poetry writing. "With the help of Teacher Li, I began to write poetry. Later, although he went to Guangdong, Tianjin, Beijing and other places to work, he never gave up on the road of poetry. ”

A turning point in life came unexpectedly, even completely unexpectedly. What changed the trajectory of his life was the accident in the winter of 2010. On December 21 of that year, due to the operation error of the tower crane master, Raven did not have time to avoid, fell from the 6-meter-high workbench to the ground, resulting in two lumbar spine ruptures, spinal cord serious injury, and was later diagnosed as paraplegic. "At first, the doctor said I would spend my life with a wheelchair, but after more than a year of convalescence, I finally limped up a few steps with the help of a rehabilitation rack." Raven said.

A habit that has been developed over many years

Losing his healthy pace, Raven's world suddenly shrinks. When his thoughts were gray, the literary dream that had been suppressed by the gravity of life for many years and could not grow normally became the driving force to soothe and support him to continue to move forward.

"After returning to Bazhong, every day after my rehabilitation, I picked up books to read, and when I was tired of reading, I picked up a pen to write poems and essays." Raven, who has more time to calm down and think, gradually has more unique discoveries and insights into poetry, life, and life. His works have also been published in journals such as Poetry Journal, Stars, Works, Shandong Literature, and in 2015, he published the poetry collection "Optimism". After more than 7 years of reading and writing, Raven has fully adapted to the sudden changes in life.

"It can be said that ten years of hardship, reading allows me to live with dignity and let me be free." Raven replied with the words from an article he had written. "My living environment is too simple to support me to understand the world." Raven said that if you want to know and understand the world, reading is the most convenient way, and you have benefited a lot from it.

"People who don't read think the world is very small, and people who like to read think they are very small." Raven says that reading is good for communication between people, allowing him to deal with complex relationships more easily. "I remember when I was in Beijing, a few workers used to play cards, drink heavily and even fight for many years." Raven recalled that because they lived in a room and saw themselves reading books and newspapers all year round, they were influenced by this, and they also flipped through the newspapers and read books from time to time. Later, when the workers went out to hang out, they also took the initiative to buy some books to report to him. "Even after more than ten years of separation, there are still former workers calling to encourage and support me spiritually, and these are all 'value-added services' that reading has brought me." Raven recalls.

A new life goal

"One should not regard leaving school as a watershed in reading, as long as one lives in the world, one should read consciously and persistently and without utilitarianism." As long as you insist on reading and writing more, in fact, everyone can become a poet. Raven said that during his work in Guangdong, Beijing and other places, he could not give up the concern for parents and children left behind in his hometown, and the only thing that could dilute and alleviate this anxiety was to use his free time to go to bookstores or used book stalls to collect some books. Every time before falling asleep, read a few poems, or read a paragraph of text, you can get relief and peace in your heart.

For the method of reading, Raven also has his own thinking. "Nowadays, all kinds of books are muddy, so it is best to calm down when reading, pick up paper books and 'read back'. When reading a book, write down what you feel and understand, so that you can think more. Raven's "reading back" is to read the classic works in china's traditional excellent culture, in his view, works that have experienced time precipitation, only to highlight their vitality and value, reading can have more thinking and harvest.

Insisting on buying books for decades has made his collection of books richer and richer. He cherished books, but he was not stingy about sharing books with others, and often lent his rare books to others. "I want to build a small family literature library, put my collection in the library, and open it to those who love literature for free." Raven said.
