Recommended by the National Health Commission: These 3 scales can screen children for autism!

What happened to my child?

When the average child is learning to speak, he can't speak;

When ordinary children can play with their friends, he always loves to play alone;

In autistic families, children experience some difficulties. In addition to the parents themselves, we must also look for some professional forces to support the children.

The Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Rehabilitation of Autism in Children by the Ministry of Health (now the Health Commission) clearly states that the following scales can be used to help screen for diagnosis when children have suspected symptoms.

Commonly used screening scales

Autism Behavior Scale (ABC)

This scale is suitable for people aged 8 months to 28 years.

A total of 57 items, each with a 4-level score, a total score of ≥ 31 indicates the presence of suspicious autism-like symptoms, and a total score of ≥ 67 indicates the presence of autism-like symptoms.

Autism Behavior Scale (CABS)

This scale is aimed at people aged 2 to 15 years old and is suitable for rapid screening of children in child care clinics, kindergartens, schools, etc.

There are 14 projects in total, each with a 2 or 3 rating. The overall score of the 2th grade ≥ 7 or the 3rd score ≥ 14 points, suggesting a suspicious autism problem.

When the results of the above two screening scales are abnormal, the child should be referred to a professional institution for further diagnosis in a timely manner.

Common diagnostic scales

Children's Autism Rating Scale (CARS)

CARS is the most commonly used diagnostic tool.

The scale consisted of 15 items, each with a 4-level rating. The total score < 30 is non-autistic, the total score of 30 to 36 is mild to moderate autism, and the total score is ≥ 36 is severe autism.

This scale is suitable for people over 2 years of age. In addition, the Autism Diagnosis Observation Scale (ADOS-G) and the Revised Edition of the Autism Diagnosis Interview Scale (ADI-R) are currently widely used diagnostic scales abroad, and China has not yet been formally introduced and revised.

When using the screening scale, full account of possible false-positive or false-negative results.

The results of the diagnostic scale are also used only as a reference for the diagnosis of autism in children, and are not a substitute for the clinician's comprehensive medical history, psychiatric examination and diagnosis based on diagnostic criteria.

Developmental Assessment Scale

Because autism often coexists with developmental delays, many parents are also curious about whether their children are developing normally. The following scales can help parents understand their child's development:

Denver Developmental Screening Test (DDST)

Geisel Development Diagnostic Scale (GDDS)

Portchi's Early Development Checklist and Psychoeducational Scale (PEP)

Intelligence Quiz Scale

Autism also often occurs at the same time as intellectual disability, and the following scales can help parents understand whether their child has intellectual problems:

Merriam-Webster Children's Intelligence Scale (WISC)

Merriam-Webster Preschool Intelligence Scale (WPPSI)

Stanford-Binne intelligence scale

Peabody Picture Vocabulary Quiz

Raven Progressive Model Test (RPM)
