In the twelfth year of the Kangxi Dynasty (1673), the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty made a decision to completely withdraw the domain in order to weaken the power of Wu Sangui and others. However, Wu Sangui in Yunnan, Shang Kexi in Guangdong, and Geng Jingzhong in Fujian were not willing to lose their position, so they launched the "San Francisco Rebellion" and supported more than 300,000 troops.
In this "San Francisco Rebellion", Wu Sangui was the most powerful and the main force against the Qing. The rebellion took eight years and spread to Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Sichuan, Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Shaanxi, Hubei and other places. For the Qing court, Wu Sangui's rebels almost conquered the entire south of the Yangtze River.
However, although Wu Sangui put forward the slogan of "anti-Ming and revenge", in fact, not many Han people really responded to him, and many people only joined in because of the situation, and turned their backs on Wu to qing at the slightest turn. Therefore, it laid the foundation for Wu Sangui's eventual failure. The reasons for Wu Sangui's failure can be summed up in nothing more than three points.
First, Wu Sangui's surrender to the Qing Dynasty was anti-Qing and capricious. He was originally a ming general, but after the death of the Ming Dynasty, he helped the Manchu Qing army enter the customs and followed the Qing army to pacify the Central Plains and the south. One of the most reprehensible is that in June 1662, he hanged the Yongli Emperor Zhu Youluo of the Southern Ming Dynasty to pay tribute to the Qing Dynasty. When Li Dingguo learned that Wu Sangui had strangled the Yongli Emperor, he was so angry that he vomited blood and died, and before he died, he still instructed his subordinates to "rather die in the deserted suburbs than surrender to Qingye." Therefore, when Wu Sangui later betrayed the Qing Dynasty and proposed "Xingming to seek revenge", not many Han people really supported him.
Second, Wu Sangui lacked strategic vision and did not go north in time. Soon after he raised his army, he originally occupied Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan and other places very quickly, and the soldiers had reached the Yangtze River. If he quickly moves north, he can compete with the Qing Dynasty for the Central Plains. However, out of various scruples, he engaged in "waiting and seeing across the river" and delayed the best fighter.
Third, San Francisco is also full of contradictions and contains each other. Shang Kexi and Geng Jingzhong and others and Wu Sangui were all in harmony with each other, each with a ghost fetus, so they did not fully cooperate with him. Therefore, it is not surprising why Wu Sangui failed.
