SATA SSD hard disk burst security vulnerability Micron: Attack is difficult to push updates

Recently, Micron for the data center market 5200, 5200 series SATA SSD hard disk was found to have a security vulnerability, and then Micron confirmed the problem, said that it is difficult to use this vulnerability to launch an attack, but they will still launch a firmware update to help users solve the problem.

Micron issued its latest statement saying that Micron attaches great importance to data security, and has done an in-depth investigation into it, and indeed found a related potential vulnerability, which may theoretically exist in two product lines, namely Micron 5200 and 5300 data center SATA SSD.

Micron said that in order to exploit this potential vulnerability, an attacker would have privileged authorization to issue special commands to drives, so it is unlikely to be exposed to users in virtualized cloud infrastructure or enterprise data centers.

Nonetheless, Micron will release an optional firmware update to address this potential vulnerability for any customer concerned about this issue with affected products.

Previously reported, a paper published by IEEE Xplore titled "Forensic Issues and Techniques to Improvement Security in SSD With Flex Capacity Feature" proposed security address commands about the variable over-configuration capabilities of industry devices using the ATA standard set max, including the Micron 5200 SSD.
