Toyota has recently launched a new generation of Toyota Supra models, but with the same powertrain as the latest BMW Z4. Fast forward to early August 2018, when Toyota's chief engineer Tetsuya Tada said the Supra with a manual transmission was not suitable for most drivers due to the high torque of the engine. In terms of power, the inline six-cylinder 3.0-liter engine brings 500 Newton meters of torque, and although there are official statements that there will be no manual transmission, the outside world has been spreading the news about the birth of the Supra manual.
The latest gossip came from Japanese magazine CarSensor, which published an article in November 2021 claiming that Toyota would launch the Supra manual model. And reliable sources say that sources from Toyota's dealer network have learned that Supra has confirmed the introduction of a six-speed manual transmission to replace the ZF's eight-speed automatic transmission.
Toyota Supra, equipped with a manual transmission, could be available in the U.S. in 2023, but there's no official word yet. It's unclear if Toyota will launch manual transmission models on both 2.0T and 3.0T engines, and twin brother BMW Z4's sDrive20i version offers a manual transmission option.
The Supra's lineup is likely to expand further in 2023, with the highly anticipated GRMN spin-off including more performance and sports kit upgrades. It is also possible to place the Supra with the S58 engines mounted on the M3 /M4 and X3 M/X4 M.
Meanwhile, with a flash of trailers, Toyota almost confirmed that an all-wheel-drive GR Corolla with a manual transmission is about to hit the market in the United States.
