Netflix announced the title of the sequel to the classic clay animation "Chicken Run": "Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget", while announcing the first stills and voice cast, which will be released in 2023.
Mel Gibson, who originally voiced the male protagonist "Rocky", is no longer back, and is voiced by "Thunder Shazam" Zachary Levy, Ginger is voiced by Sandy Newton, and Bella Ramsey is voiced by the daughter of two chickens, Molly. In addition, many actors returned to their previous roles: Jane Holox (Babs), Ameda Stanton (Bonny) and Lynn Ferguson (Mark). Directed by Sam Phil (The Wanderings of the Rat Nation), the film is currently being filmed.
The story tells that Ginger and chicks live on a tranquil island, far from the dangers of the human world. However, when Ginger and Lodge hatch a small hen named Molly, Ginger's happy life seems to come to an end.
"Chicken Run" was released in 2000, and DreamWorks Animation was the biggest collaborator. The film pays homage to the prison break film The Great Escape, which still holds the global box office record for stop-motion animation ($225 million). Aardman Studios will continue to co-produce with its long-time partner Studio Canal, with Netflix being the biggest funder.
