BEIJING, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Few people may know that today is a festival that belongs to pure sports: "Play True Day".

Since 2014, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and anti-doping groups around the world have celebrated Fair Play Day in April, a festival dedicated to "pure sport" to raise awareness among athletes, people in the sports world and others about the importance of protecting "pure sport".

Fair Play Day originated from the 2013 WADA-sponsored Education Conference, which was attended by 17 South American countries and regions. What started out as a small event in South America has slowly expanded its impact, reaching more than 50 million people worldwide in last year's social media campaigns, with numerous individuals and organizations from around the globe participating. This year's Fair Play Day is scheduled for April 9 with the theme "What Does Fair Play Mean to You?" ”。

This year's event format was carried out online, and the China Anti-Doping Center issued a "Fair Play Day 2021 Activity Invitation Letter" on its official website, and many athletes, support staff and sports enthusiasts have made their own exclusive "Fair Play Day" photos and posted them on social media. Participants shared their understanding of fair play on Weibo and WeChat circles and expressed their support for pure sports.

Zhang Hong, a member of the International Olympic Committee, a director of the World Anti-Doping Agency and the chairman of the Athletes' Committee of the China Anti-Doping Center, also participated in the event, saying: "The use of doping is essentially a deceptive behavior, which is as unethical as exam cheating, which damages the physical and mental health of athletes and the sports they are engaged in. Li Na, a member of the Athletes Committee of the World Anti-Doping Agency and a member of the Education Committee of the China Anti-Doping Center, put forward the hope for the athletes, "hoping that all athletes and the majority of sports participants can adhere to the spirit of sportsmanship and win clean gold medals under the principle of fair competition."
