Head of the National Speed Skating Hall Design Team: 2022 is destined to be a "just right" year

The opening of the Winter Olympics has once again attracted the attention of the world. As the only newly built ice competition venue for the Winter Olympics, the National Speed Skating Hall, known as the "Ice Ribbon", has attracted the attention of all sectors of society since its inception.

"Ice Ribbon" is a sports venue with high appearance and high technology content. Zheng Fang, head of the design team of the National Speed Skating Hall and deputy chief architect of the Beijing Institute of Construction, said that the design of the "ice ribbon" comes from the concept of combining ice and speed, and the reason why it has such a "high value" is inseparable from the glass material with high transparency and ice-like feeling, and also from the new structural system independently designed and developed by the design team of the Beijing Architectural Design and Research Institute - the heterogeneous mesh shell structure of the single cable support curved curtain wall.

There are 22 circles of "ribbons" around the ice ribbon building, which become the finishing touch of the entire building. Zheng Fang said that in the original design sketch, only 8 were made, but the computer simulation effect was not ideal. Later, the design was constantly revised, and at one point more than 50 lines were added, and the ribbon was as thin as yarn at that time, and it went to the other extreme. For a while, I didn't know what to make, and later in the continuous attempt, I found that the Winter Olympics will be held in 2022, so it is better to try the effect of 22 ribbons. Unexpectedly, the number of 22 "ribbons" achieved the best results in the performance of the sense of speed, the difficulty of engineering construction and the vision of distance and proximity. "It also indicates that 2022 is destined to be a 'just right' year."

Not only that, the National Speed Skating Hall also has a "strongest brain" with high scientific and technological content - the digital twin platform developed by Beijing Jianyuan Institute, which integrates the massive data of the speed skating hall for high-precision real-time detection of the environment and equipment system operation of the venue, and saves energy and low carbon operation under the premise of ensuring the competition and the use of functions. The temperature of the ice rink, the temperature and humidity of the air, the operation of all machinery and equipment, as well as energy consumption and carbon emission data, are clear at a glance.

The "ice ribbon" runs parallel to the central axis of the city, close to Yangshan, which is the end of the central axis, in order to reduce the height of the building as much as possible, so that the building takes a humble posture on the west side of Yangshan Mountain. Zheng Fang introduced that for this reason, the competition venue was sunk to the underground level, and about 3/4 of the building area was located underground, and natural lighting and ventilation were obtained through the sunken courtyard. Through positioning and sinking, the two purposes of energy saving and environmental coordination are realized at the same time.
