The unfortunate horse, named Jet Set, is part of Swiss rider Robin Gaudel. The official announcement said: "We are sad to announce" that the horse "had to be euthanized" because of a serious injury in a race at the Forest of the Seas.
The match report shows that the match started at 7:45 on the 1st. The race status of this horse and another Brazilian horse is shown as "RT", which means Retired.
The horse, 14 years old, was visited by a veterinarian immediately after his injury and, after an initial assessment, was transferred by horse ambulance to the on-site veterinary clinic. Ultrasound scans showed that the horse's right lower limb ligament rupture could not be repaired, just above the horse's hoof. For humanitarian reasons, with the consent of the owner and the athlete, it was decided to let the horse rest in peace forever.
According to THE FIA Veterinary Regulations, the race organizers have taken samples from the horses and will perform a post-mortem examination.
