During the trial phase of the case, the Shangqiu Intermediate Court rendered four guilty verdicts, three of which were remanded for retrial by the Henan Higher People's Court. Zhao Yuming served as presiding judge in the three-member collegial panel that convicted Wu Chunhong for the third time. According to the verdict, on July 13, 2007, the Shangqiu Intermediate People's Court found Wu Chunhong guilty of intentional homicide and sentenced Wu Chunhong to death with a two-year suspension of execution.
