One of the oldest surviving orchestras in the UK - the Manchester Halley Orchestra

The Manchester Harley Orchestra, founded in 1858, is one of the oldest surviving orchestras in the UK, giving more than 70 concerts a year at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and more than 40 concerts in other parts of the UK.

In the 1940s and 1950s, under the leadership of Sir John Barbiroli, the orchestra became the first non-London symphony orchestra to appear at a Proms concert.

In September 2000, Sir Mark Elder was invited to be music director of the Manchester Harley Orchestra, during which time the orchestra continued its century-old shop reputation and received numerous accolades.

In 2012, Elder led the orchestra to perform in China for the first time, and also received high praise from the media: "Under the protection of well-known British composers such as Vaughn Williams, Britton and Elgar, this veteran British orchestra has defended its glory like a divine help." ”

The Manchester Halley Orchestra has performed with a number of soloists, including Professor Tillmannwick, cellist professor at the Hannover Academy of Music and Theatre Media.

As a cello soloist, his career has been the world premiere of the Derphshak Cello Concerto with the Manchester Halley Orchestra, the Tchaikovsky' Rococo Variations with the Bavarian State Orchestra Munich, and the Cello Concerto of Master Ernst Helmuth Flammer with the Leipzig MDR Orchestra.
