Past studies have found that most dieters reach their lowest weight after 4-6 months of dieting, after which they may still get stuck in the plateau period or rebound even after continuing to diet.

Recently, researchers at Ben Gurion University in the Negev published a study in Gastroenterology on an effective way to prevent rebound: eating microorganisms extracted from their own feces.

Popular science, not really eat... This is known in the medical community as aFMT (Autologous Fecal Microbial Transplantation).

The specific operation is: in the healthy period, from the self-pulled rice dumplings, through special treatment methods such as freezing and separation to synthesize opaque, odorless capsules, and when the disease is over, taking these capsules can partially restore the intestinal flora. At present, this method is mainly used to treat digestive system diseases.

Participants selected for this experiment were patients with abdominal obesity or dyslipidemia (high cholesterol) who were randomly divided into three groups with different dietary plans (similar caloric intake):

General healthy eating;

Mediterranean diet: fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and olive oil as the main ingredients;

Green Mediterranean Diet: Participants were provided with a special duckweed aquatic strain drink containing green milkshakes, green tea and 28g walnuts.

90 eligible participants provided stool samples made into aFMT capsules (containing the fecal microbiota). Participants were then randomly assigned to two groups (capsule/placebo), both of whom needed to take 100 capsules.

Participants didn't know what they were eating, so not bouncing back wasn't because of nausea.

The results showed that after 6 months, the participants lost an average of 8.3 kg of weight. After 14 months, the rebound in the capsule group was only 17.1%, compared to 50% in the placebo group.

The researchers believe that the main reason for the less rebound in the capsule group is that retaining the ideal gut microbiome is beneficial in promoting the body's metabolism. In addition, many other potential indications for FMT are blooming in clinical studies, including obesity and its associated metabolic disorders.
