This feature builds on the previously more limited cross-platform connectivity features in the game. Prior to this, players had to craft custom lobbies to play with friends on different platforms. Mediatonic also allows you to play against people from other platforms by pairing, but you can't team up with them.
At the same time, the announcement also previewed the game's new mode "Candy Thief". The new mode divides the player into two factions: Thieves and Guards.
