The 2023 Kia Niro is available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric models

The new Kia Niro CUV debuted at the New York International Auto Show. The next generation of Niro is designed from the ground up to meet and exceed the expectations of environmentally conscious consumers. With its eye-catching styling and commitment to sustainability and connectivity, 2023 Niro will introduce three highly efficient electrified powertrains: hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and all-electric (EV).

From the inside out, the 2023 Niro features bold designs inspired by the "Opposites United" concept, blending nature's inspiration with aerodynamic refinement. The 2023 Niro's exterior embodies a sense of sophistication and adventurous mission, which was strongly influenced by the 2019 HabaNiro concept, which achieved an impressive resistance coefficient (Cd) of 0.29.

In terms of size, the 2023 Niro retains a compact footprint, but is a bit larger than the vehicles it replaces. The wheelbase is increased to 107.1 inches and the overall length is increased to 174 inches. Cargo capacity behind the rear seats increased to 22.8 cubic feet. And with 6.3 inches of ground clearance, Niro can handle urban activity with ease. As a result of these changes, Niro's cabin space is 8 cubic feet more and 50% more cargo space than the Tesla Model 3.

The available heads-up display (HUD) projects direction, active safety warnings, vehicle speed, and current infotainment directly within the driver's line of sight. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto features are standard, and wireless phone chargers are optional. The 2023 Niro EV has the same vehicle-to-load (V2L) on-board generator capabilities pioneered by the EV6.

Cutting-edge ADAS technologies that are standard on Niro 2023 include:

Forward Collision Avoidance (FCA) with Pedestrian Detection: If there is a risk of collision with a pedestrian in front of the vehicle while driving, a warning is issued and brakes may be automatically assisted

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA): Helps detect lane markings and provides steering inputs to help prevent vehicles from leaving the lane while driving

Lane Following Assist (LFA): Helps detect lane markings and vehicles in front, and provides steering inputs to help vehicles center in the lane

Driver Attention Warning (DAW): Analyzes driver attention levels and warns when a break is recommended. It can also provide a forward vehicle departure alert if it leaves the stop and the driver does not respond within a specific time period

Blind Spot Collision Avoidance (BCA) with Parallel Exits: Automatically assisted braking can help avoid collisions with vehicles behind when leaving parallel parking spaces

Rear Intersection Collision Avoidance Assist (RCCA): Helps detect approaching intersections when reversing. When an approaching intersection is detected, the system alerts the driver and may brake

Safety Exit Warning (SEW): When someone leaves the vehicle, a warning is issued when the vehicle approaches from behind

Rear Occupant Alert (ROA): Warns the driver to check the rear seat before leaving the vehicle
