Academician Chen Junshi: Sweeteners replacing sugar is the development trend of beverages

According to the Healthy China Action (2019-2030), the daily salt intake of adults should not be higher than 5 grams, the daily edible oil intake should not be higher than 25-30 grams, and the daily added sugar intake should not be higher than 25 grams. Encourage the whole society to participate in salt reduction, oil reduction, and sugar reduction, advocate food producers and operators to use natural sweeteners and sweeteners allowed by food safety standards to replace sucrose, and scientifically reduce the content of sucrose in processed foods.

Chen Junshi said that in addition to confectionery products, prepackaged foods in beverages, bakery products, dairy products are the top three types of sugar content, the dairy industry has begun to reduce sugar operations. Sweeteners are additives that replace sugar, and the state has relevant regulations on the use of sweeteners. There are natural sweeteners, artificial sweeteners, etc. on the market, as long as they are used in accordance with national regulations, consumers can rest assured. As the beverage industry develops, replacing sugar with sweeteners is a trend, but it will not be completely replaced in the future, giving consumers a choice.
