At 23:59 on December 18, a 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in Jishishan County, Linxia Prefecture, Gansu Province, with an epicenter depth of 10 kilometers. In view of the severity of the disaster, the State Council Earthquake Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management have upgraded the national earthquake emergency response to Level 2, and the National Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Relief Committee and the Ministry of Emergency Management have upgraded the national disaster relief emergency response to Level 3.
In the aftermath of the earthquake, rescue forces from all sides rushed to the rescue.
At 3:55 a.m. on December 19, 2023, 9 members of the first echelon of Shuguang Rescue (Lanzhou) arrived in Jishishan County, Gansu Province, reported to the local emergency bureau to receive the task, and went to Shiyuan Town at 4:10 to conduct life rescue investigation and disaster information research. At 7:00, he went to Jishi Middle School to set up a temporary rescue command center, and at 10:10, a group of personnel went to Dahejia Town, the earthquake area, transferred more than 50 casualties, and set up emergency tents in the Cultural Square to distribute relief materials.
At 10:51 a.m., 15 rescue advance teams from Shuguang Rescue (Xiamen) were already on their way from Lanzhou to Jishishan County.
