The new Volkswagen Golf R made its public debut and will be launched this summer

Just a few days after the release of the new 2024 Golf, Volkswagen showed the new Golf R in public for the first time, and the new car will be officially unveiled this summer.

The top-of-the-line model of the Golf family, along with the released GTI, GTE and eHybrid models, was unveiled at the Zelm Ice Circuit in Austria last weekend with a commemorative "Golf 50 Anniversary" camouflage livery as part of the celebration of the Volkswagen all-wheel drive performance brand.

IT Home noticed that the front part of the new car, the blackened grille with a slender through-light strip and illuminated front logo and LED headlight clusters on both sides are very recognizable. The central R band and the sharp shape that surrounds the bottom underline make it a statement of its unique identity. The sides of the new car are still familiar lines, and the exclusive large blacked-out wheels also highlight its performance.

The new Golf R will feature a new interior designed to correct some of the problems with the eighth-generation Golf series, with a new infotainment system, reintroduced physical buttons, and higher-quality interior materials.

In terms of power, the new car is expected to retain its 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, which could be slightly more powerful than the current level of 316bhp. This will be the last petrol model of the Golf R, and the performance brand will move to an electric model lineup in 2030.
