The first leg of the high-profile 2024 Shanghai Youth Sports Elite Series Chess Competition (team competition) was recently held at the Puhuitang Road Campus of Xuhui Middle School. The tournament brought together 191 teams and a total of 573 young athletes from 16 districts of Shanghai, who gathered together to compete for the glory of chess.
As a youth chess event carefully organized by the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau, the Shanghai Youth Sports Elite Series Chess Competition represents the highest level of youth chess in Shanghai. The competition set up a total of 10 groups in five age groups: U8, U10, U12, U14 and U18, providing a stage for young players of different ages to show themselves.
A total of 68 athletes from Xuhui District, with a total of 17 teams, participated in all categories. During the competition, the players showed superb chess skills and tenacious fighting spirit. They were either deliberate or decisive, and launched a battle of wisdom and strategy on the chessboard.
After several rounds of fierce competition, a total of 10 teams from Xuhui District were successfully shortlisted for the finals with their outstanding performance and outstanding strength. Among them, the players of the U8 men's group and the U18 women's group successfully advanced to the third place, adding another touch of color to the honor list of Xuhui District.
It is understood that from May 2nd to 3rd, the final of the chess team competition will be officially launched at the Shanghai Luwan Gymnasium. I wish the athletes of Xuhui District good results in the finals!
