Ernest Bieler (1863-1948) was an accomplished Swiss painter, draughtsman and printmaker. His works include oil, tempera, watercolor, gouache, ink, charcoal, pastel, acrylic and pencil. He also created mosaics and stained glass windows. After completing his studies in Lausanne, Bühler attended the Institut Julien in Paris. In 1900, he won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Together with Rapha?l Ritz, Edouard Vallet, and others, he founded the Accademia de Savyes. He was awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor.

He often depicted scenes of peasant life in extraordinary detail. Bueller also made stained glass windows for churches and federal buildings in Bern, and decorated ceilings for Bern's City Theater.
