Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw said he should not have played in the Premier League game against Luton Town, forcing him to play with an injury that left him with a hamstring injury, and although he was named in the England squad, it is still seriously doubtful that he will ultimately be able to play at Euro 2024.

The left-back has not featured since Manchester United's 2-1 win over Luton Town on 18 February. He had already picked up an injury against Aston Villa before that game and was out of fire at half-time, but Ten Hag demanded that he continue playing. Luke Shaw agreed, only to be sidelined again with a half-time injury and reimbursed for the season.

At present, Luke Shaw, who has been retained by Gareth Southgate in the England 26-man squad, has not trained with his team-mates and has been training separately and is unlikely to feature in the group stage opener against Serbia next Sunday.

The 28-year-old admitted that both he and United made mistakes when it came to treating the initial muscle strain. "I felt a little uncomfortable in the match against Villa on 11 February. Everybody made mistakes, partly my fault, partly the medical staff's fault, and I think everybody would admit it. At that time, after the scan results came out, it looked like a problem. But I didn't train for a week, I only trained the day before the race. The coach asked me to play and I would never say no. But in retrospect, I shouldn't have competed."

Luke Shaw, who played just 12 Premier League games last season, explained: "We all want to play. My season has been frustrating and I've had a lot of injuries. Maybe sometimes, especially my first hamstring, could have been avoided. But you have to accept the reality that this is the end of the day, and I have to move on. For me, the most important thing now is to give it all out to get fit and help England win the European Championships.'

Commenting on his chances, Shaw explained: "I really wanted to play my first fight, and I can't lie. But I don't want to rush it, because in reality, I might only get one chance. If I feel something, it's over, and I don't want that to happen again."

Manchester United have recorded a Premier League-high 60 injury absences this season, which Ten Hag has cited as the main reason for his poor performance this season. However, Ten Hag's insistence on a similar line-up, the lack of intensity in training adapted to the game, and the expertise of United's team of doctors have been questioned.

Luke Shaw is not the only Red Devils player to be asked to play with an injury this season, and the team doctor also determined that Casemiro is fit to play ahead of the Double Red League against Liverpool, but the Brazil international checked with an expert and found that if he played, it could lead to a recurrence of old injuries.

Luke Shaw, who has been with Manchester United for 10 years, has an overall attendance rate of less than 50 per cent, and for such an injury-prone man, Ten Hag and the team's team of doctors have clearly not handled it appropriately. Of course, "Manchester United's Carlos" is not strong enough physically and mentally tough, which has been criticised by Mourinho in the past. With both left-handers suffering serious injuries this season, United have decided they must bring in a new left-back this summer.

Some fans also questioned that Luke Shaw could not return at Manchester United, but he could represent England in the European Cup, which may be a "fraud" at the club. To this, the England left-back responded: "Some people have come to me and said: 'How did you not play at Manchester United and be called for England? No one knows what happened at the time. I'm actually back training and I've been trying to get back to playing for Manchester United, especially in the FA Cup final. I think I pushed too hard, came back too fast, and ended up hurting my hamstring again. There were three weeks to go before the final, and the doctor said the injury required six weeks of rest."
