As we all know, the selection of students is a unique way for the top students of prestigious schools to enter the civil service system. The selection and transfer of students from each province shall be demarcated by the Organization Department of the Provincial Party Committee, and the students within the scope of the target colleges and universities shall obtain admission qualifications through examinations and interviews, that is, become civil servants. Selected and transferred students are not ordinary civil servants, but civil servants trained by national reserve cadres, so their future promotion prospects are better than those of ordinary civil servants.
There are currently three types of selected students, central selected students, provincial selected students, and ordinary selected students. The central government selects and transfers students with the highest grade, and the hired personnel directly enter the work of national ministries and commissions. Provincial selection and transfer of students are organized and hired by the organization departments of the provincial party committees, and generally the hired personnel go to work in provincial and municipal units. The grade of ordinary selection and transfer students is the lowest, and full-time students with a bachelor's degree or above can apply for the examination, but their essence is similar to that of township civil servants.
The list of colleges and universities selected by the central ministries and commissions in 2024 has been officially announced, and seven of the 985 colleges and universities have been eliminated. Let's take a look at why these seven universities are located.

At present, there are 39 985 colleges and universities and 112 211 colleges and universities in the mainland. Among them, 985 colleges and universities are all 211, but 211 is not necessarily 985 colleges. According to the statistics of the 2023 national college entrance examination, the undergraduate acceptance rate of 985 colleges and universities is only about 1%. If you want to be admitted to a college at this level, you should at least be at the level of one in a hundred.
It is precisely because of the high grade of 985 colleges and universities that the quality of students is good and makes great contributions to the progress of the country and society. Therefore, most of the students selected by the central government are 985 colleges, but seven of the 39 985 colleges and universities are excluded.

First of all, the National University of Defense Technology cannot be regarded as an exclusion. Because of its nature as a military school, most of the graduates of the National Defense University of Science and Technology have both military status and distribution, so there is no need to participate in the central selection and transfer of students. Graduates can directly follow the military orders and school arrangements and join the army.
This is followed by South China University of Technology. South China University of Technology and Sun Yat-sen University are also known as the twin stars of Guangdong universities. At present, South China University of Technology ranks among the top 20 universities in China all year round. The school's integrated circuits, architecture, urban and rural planning, and information engineering are all ace majors. The employment quality of its graduates is not inferior to that of Sun Yat-sen University, which is famous for its arts and sciences, but I don't know why they are not qualified to participate in the central selection and transfer of students?
Of course, this also includes East China Normal University. East China Normal University, located in Shanghai, is one of the six normal colleges directly under the Ministry of Education, and is also one of only two 985 normal colleges in China. With a superior geographical location and good academic strength, why was it excluded from the central selection and transfer? Moreover, the admission score of the college entrance examination of East China Normal University is obviously inflated, and most students go to the school with high scores, but in the end, they are not qualified for central selection, and the students of this school can only cry without tears.

And, of course, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China. Many people have not heard of this school, but it is actually an engineering college located in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. With the popularity of computer majors, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China has been a great situation in the past two years, and its graduates can easily earn an annual salary of 200,000 yuan. However, they are not qualified to participate in the central government's selection, which shows that they are still forced to make a lot of money outside the system.
The last Ocean University of China, Northwest A&F University and Minzu University of China are all the last 985 colleges that our candidates and parents are accustomed to. The 985 colleges and universities were evaluated in May 1998, and many colleges and universities have declined since then, and have even been surpassed by other emerging 211 universities. Therefore, most of the seven 985 colleges and universities that may be eliminated are at the bottom of the stream.
At present, there is no official ranking of 985 universities. However, the first time the attitude was expressed was the 2018 Double First-Class Evaluation, which rated 39 985 universities as Double First-Class A and Class B construction universities. There are three 985 universities in the double first-class B, namely Hunan University, Northwest A&F University and Northeastern University. These three colleges and universities have also been officially entered into the B class double first-class, and it seems that the last 985 is worthy of the name. So why are Hunan University and Northeastern University, which are officially defined as double first-class B-class construction universities, able to participate in the central government's selection and transfer of students?

Due to the highest confidentiality of the central selection and transfer students, the electronic version of the relevant materials will not be issued. The materials for each institution to receive the central selection and transfer students are also distributed peer-to-peer. There is still a great deal of controversy as to which schools will be selected and which will be eliminated.
But there is no doubt that some of the last 985 universities are definitely not qualified to participate in the central selection. Even if you are eligible, the final admission slots are pitiful.
