On June 27, 2024, the Intermediate People's Court of Hefei City, Anhui Province, held a public trial of the first instance of the bribery case of Dong Yunhu, former party secretary and director of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress.

The People's Procuratorate of Hefei City, Anhui Province, indicted and alleged: From 2002 to 2023, defendant Dong Yunhu took advantage of his position as director of the Seventh Bureau of the Central Foreign Propaganda Office, member of the Standing Committee and head of the Propaganda Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region Party Committee, member of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee and director of the Propaganda Department, secretary and chairman of the leading party group of the Shanghai Municipal People's Political Consultative Conference, and secretary and director of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress, as well as the facilitation of the formation of his authority and status, to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as financing loans, land transfers, business operations, and personnel arrangements. Illegally accepted property from the above-mentioned units and individuals, totaling more than 148 million yuan. The procuratorate requested that Dong Yunhu be investigated for criminal responsibility for the crime of accepting bribes.

During the trial, the procuratorate presented relevant evidence, the defendant Dong Yunhu and his defender conducted cross-examination, the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court, and Dong Yunhu made a final statement and pleaded guilty and repented in court.

At the end of the trial, the court announced an adjournment and announced the verdict at a later date.

More than 30 people, including deputies to the National People's Congress, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, journalists, and people from all walks of life, attended the trial.
