Quiet, elegant, and stylish, Julie Marshall enjoyed her time with the Jaguar F-Pace SUV

Jaguar launched the F-Pace, a sleek SUV, in 2016, and since then, it has proven to be one of the company's most popular cars.

It may not seem like what everyone thinks of Jaguar, but SUVs are more popular than ever because a car needs to play many roles in the family, and it ticks a lot of boxes.

F-Pace has continued to evolve over the years. The 2024 model, in particular, has received a lot of upgrades to its specs and powertrain.

For example, in line with Jaguar's plans to go all-electric in 2025, the P400e plug-in hybrid, which we test-drove for a week, is now equipped with a larger lithium-ion battery that increases the all-electric range from 33 mph to around 39 mph. If you're using the F-Pace for a short commute every day, and you have charging facilities at both ends, this range may be sufficient.

This model is also particularly advantageous if you pay corporate car tax.

According to Jaguar, the P400e already accounts for more than a fifth of F-Pace sales in the UK, while the proportion is much higher in other European countries.

Although Jaguar says the model range has been simplified, there is still plenty of choice: R-Dynamic S, R-Dynamic SE Black, R-Dynamic HSE Black, 400 SPORT and SVR. The list of options is dizzying and can add thousands of pounds to the base price. Our test car started at £65,660 and after all the goodies, the final price was £75,650.

No doubt. The F-Pace is a good-looking car. Most models come with a "Black Package" with a smart gloss black finish throughout the body.

In the luxurious and upscale interior, as you would expect from an upgrade, the number of technologies has increased. The TFT driver display is new, wireless phone charging is standard, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and integrated Alexa voice control are also standard. There's also a clever innovation, what3words navigation – how inspiring is that?

The controls are easy to use, well-laid out, and the number of physical buttons with digital features is just right to please most people. The touch screen is very responsive.

The driver's seat and steering wheel have a variety of adjustment functions to guarantee comfort even on long journeys.

All models feature all-wheel drive and a superior eight-speed automatic transmission for seamless gear shifting.

The F-Pace is quiet and has a refined engine. When it starts in electric mode, it is, of course, silent.

Adding the output of a two-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor together produces 398 horsepower and 472 lb/ft of torque.

The suspension is stiff but not difficult to handle, and it handles well on all surfaces. Despite the tall bodywork, it can still traverse twisty roads with ease and confidence.

While it's true that the rearview window gets in the way of parking, the overall view is generally good, but the rearview camera and sensors can mitigate any issues.

The rear middle seat has plenty of room for four tall adults and a small child, and there's plenty of storage space and a good-sized suitcase.
