In Journey to the West, Monkey King's master, Bodhi Patriarch, practiced at Lingtai Fangcun Mountain in Xiniu Hezhou. And the Bodhi patriarch should be the three apprentices of the Buddha, Su Bodhi. So, why did Subodhi go down to the Spirit Mountain instead of following the practice of Nyolai? This has to start with the factional struggle within Lingshan.
The Eagle Mountain, where the Great Lei Yin Temple is located, is also known as the "Spirit Mountain" for short. It is the headquarters of Western Buddhism, and it is also divided into various factions internally. According to the timeline, it is divided into three types: pastorism, futurism and presentism.
The "Past" refers to the Buddha of the past, led by the Ancient Buddha of the Burning Lamp, who has abdicated but is also very influential.
"Futurism" refers to the future Buddha headed by Maitreya Buddha, who can succeed as long as the Buddha abdicates.
The "present school" refers to the Buddha in power headed by the Buddha of Nyorai, which is the strongest and stable force within Buddhism.
However, within the "modernist school", there are two small hills, which can be summarized by the "dirty clothes school" and the "clean clothes school". Anyone who has read Jin Yong's book should know this concept.
The "dirty clothes school" pays attention to penance, not greedy for enjoyment, and believes that monks should be led by diligence and thrift. Rulai's second disciple, Jin Chanzi Tang Seng, is a representative figure. He once said: "We are walking monks, how dare we accept gold and silver wealth when we meet Zhuang Hua and eat and ask for fast everywhere...... If I am a monk, if I receive the slightest bribe, it will be difficult to repair. ”
The "Pure Clothes School" pays attention to food and beauty, food and clothing, and believes that monks should be paid. Nyolai's subordinates, Ananda and Kasya, were staunch executors. Even if you meet the four Tang monks and apprentices, you also have to ask for personnel expenses.
Of course, Rulai supports the "clean clothes faction" and opposes the "dirty clothes faction". As a result, the golden cicada was degraded.
According to the temper of the Bodhi Patriarch, it is estimated that he is also a "dirty clothes faction", because he once wanted to accept the "woodcutter" as an apprentice for free, but was refused. Later, he taught Sun Wukong for free, which shows that he doesn't care much about money.
Then, before the Jin Chanzi was demoted, the Bodhi Patriarch should have had a quarrel with Rulai, which is a dispute over the line within the Buddhist sect.
The results are clear. Patriarch Bodhi was forced to leave Lingshan and found another place to practice, "Lingtai Fangcun Mountain".
Literally, the "Linghu Mountain" of Da Lei Yin Temple represents the vulture that is greedy and drinks like blood, while the "Lingtai Mountain" represents the whole of people's hearts and cultivation, and it is more Buddha-like.
Interestingly, "Lingtai Fangcun Mountain" can also be referred to as "Lingshan", to a certain extent, Bodhi Patriarch can be regarded as "another center".
