Playground Games recently announced that its popular open-world racing game Forza Horizon 4 will stop selling on the Microsoft Store and Steam platforms on December 15 due to the expiration of music rights and vehicle licensing contracts. In addition, the relevant vehicle pack downloads (DLC) have also been removed from the shelves in advance. For players who purchase DLC through the Xbox Game Pass (XGP) subscription service, in-game currency will be officially offered as compensation.
Of course, players who have already purchased the digital or physical version can still continue to enjoy the game without any impact on online services. Within 48 hours of this announcement, the number of online players for the game surged to 71,598 concurrent users, setting a new record for the number of people online since the game hit Steam in 2021 (only slightly lower than Forza Horizon 5's peak).
The final in-game event, Festival Playlist Series 77, has also been announced. Players will need to complete a series of challenges between July 22 and August 22, including seasonal tournaments, stunts, and seasonal rewards, to unlock in-game achievements. Completing these challenges will also earn you Season Bonuses.
After Series 77 ends, Forza Horizon 4 will no longer feature new seasonal events. However, players will still be able to take on daily and weekly challenges, redeem points for the Backstage Pass, and the official will continue to update the vehicles in the Pass, including the exclusive models from the previous Festival Playlist.
At present, Forza Horizon 4 has launched an unprecedented discount event on the Steam platform, with the standard version priced at 37.6 yuan, the deluxe version at 51.2 yuan, and the ultimate version at 66.6 yuan, and the discount will last until June 29. The special offer for the Xbox platform is expected to begin on July 14.
