Wuling Motors recently announced that its new compact SUV, the Wuling Xingguang S, will be officially unveiled on the 2nd of this month, followed by sales in August. It is reported that the car is positioned as a compact SUV, based on the Wuling Tianyu architecture D platform, providing two power forms: pure electric and plug-in hybrid. Among them, the pure electric version is driven by a single motor and has a maximum power of 150 kilowatts. The plug-in hybrid version is equipped with a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine with a maximum engine power of 78 kW and a battery pack with a capacity of 9.5 kWh and 20.5 kWh. The corresponding all-electric range is 43 km and 90 km, respectively.
In terms of appearance, Wuling Xingguang S continues the design language of the Xingguang family model, with a body size of 4745/1890/1680 mm and a wheelbase of 2800 mm. The front face features a split headlight cluster, while the LED daytime running lights are composed of two sets of lines, and the rear light cluster also presents a polygonal pattern. The front bumper of the plug-in hybrid version is decorated with horizontal trim, and the front bumper of the pure electric version is decorated with a grid structure, and is available in four exterior colors: Star White, Star Blue, Hoshino Gray, and Star Shimmer Gold. In terms of interior, Wuling Xingguang S is equipped with a rectangular LCD instrument screen, a large-size central touch screen and a new style flat-bottomed double-spoke multi-function steering wheel, as well as a pocket shift mechanism, two mobile phone storage compartments and cup holders under the central control screen, and a small number of physical buttons.
It is reported that the main competitors of Wuling Xingguang S are expected to point to models such as BYD Song PLUS DM-i and BYD Yuan PLUS. According to the sales data, in May this year, the sales volume of BYD Song PLUS DM-i was 21,409 units, and the sales volume of Yuan PLUS was 24,646 units.
