The smoke tree is fragrant
Originally, I had been sketching on the Loess Plateau in Shanxi and Shaanxi for many years, because I was too familiar with this land and I was very good at painting. And this time, I ran to the south of Yunnan, this strange place, in order to change my picture of the loess cave, change the tone or change the scene. Perhaps, I have learned more about the southern country; Perhaps, there is another gain.
This spring, a friend invited me to travel to Yunnan, and finally arrived in Xishuangbanna, and I couldn't help but be interested. Tropical rainforests, Dai bamboo buildings, Mekong River banks, ethnic customs, everywhere into the painting. When I first arrived, some people said that this is a paradise for Chinese painters and a forbidden area for oil painters, but the words are a bit absolute, because the oil painters are helpless because of the green everywhere. In fact, Banna's natural landscape is diverse, rich in color, and also contains a variety of national cultures, all of which are more suitable for the expression of oil painting colors. There are shapes, brushstrokes, and all the elements in the picture here, and it should be said that it is a paradise for oil painters. Although the time for this sketch is limited, the completion of each painting is a new experience.
I think that no matter what the environment, as long as you feel it with your heart, you can always make new discoveries and new ideas. This is my first time sketching in Mengbaranasi, and maybe there will be more possibilities in the constant search.

Bai Yuping, born in Shanxi in 1960, is of Manchu nationality. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of the Central Academy for Nationalities in 1988 and the first Advanced Seminar on Oil Painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2004. He is a researcher at the China National Academy of Painting and a national first-class artist. Director of China Oil Painting Society. He is a member of the Chinese Artists Association, a member of the Mural Committee of the Chinese Artists Association, the director of the Dongyi Art Museum, and the president of the Tongdao Painting Association.
