IT Home reported on July 1 that Microsoft is testing a major update for the Windows Built-in Weather app, which will bring a series of significant changes.

Whistleblower @ChangeWindows preemptively disclosed some of the updates on social platforms, as follows:

  • The homepage of the weather app still retains the original two ad slots.
  • The top status bar features a Fluent design with rounded buttons for a more modern look.
  • The theme switch function has been moved from the original title bar to the temperature unit selector pop-up window and the original title bar button. However, this feature is not yet complete, and Microsoft may fix it in a future update.
  • A new navigation dashboard has been added to allow users to quickly jump to different sections of weather details without having to scroll through the entire page.
  • Introducing a new light theme, the color scheme is refreshing and eye-catching.

  • The "View Monthly Plan" button is replaced with "View Monthly", and when clicked, it will no longer jump to a separate monthly overview page, but will scroll on the current page.
  • The "Weather Insights" section was renamed "Weather Details", and new information such as cloud cover, wind, air quality index, visibility, dew point temperature, moon phase, etc.
  • The redesigned homepage includes a new "Weather Map" section and a range of controls.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the new "Monthly Information" section to introduce two new ad slots.
  • The "Weather Trend" section displays historical weather data, making it easy for users to view historical weather data.

IT Home noticed that except for the homepage revamp, there are no changes to other parts of the weather app for the time being. The update is currently being rolled out gradually, and some users may not have received it yet. If additional weather information is needed, users can also download the MSN Weather app from the Microsoft Store.
