In Obuchi's impression, it only began to become popular on a large scale this year: in the past, it was said that it was a "titanium frame" when wearing glasses at most, but this year, titanium has appeared in many metal household items.
So is "titanium" worth buying? I asked a worker who had been working in a steel mill for decades and got the following answer.

Five basic capabilities
When measuring the quality of all metal products, we should start from their five basic abilities.
(1) Corrosion resistance丨In this aspect, titanium can be said to be better than stainless steel products. The most common metal in life is 316 stainless steel, and titanium has stronger corrosion resistance than 316.
(2) Biophilicity丨Titanium is very biophilic, to put it bluntly, it is not easy to be allergic. Just like when I can't usually wear a metal strap, my wrists will be red, itchy, and have small bumps. But if you change to a titanium chain, you can use it with confidence.

(3) Weight density丨We often say that "titanium is lightweight", but in fact, the density of titanium is low. A thermos cup, stainless steel at least three or four hundred grams, replaced by titanium is less than 200 grams, so outdoor products like to use titanium.
(4) Thermal conductivity丨The performance of titanium in this aspect is not good, only 1/5 of iron and 1/14 of aluminum. But on the other hand, poor thermal conductivity means strong thermal insulation, so it's not entirely bad.
(5) Strength and hardness丨This should be expanded——
Obuchi looked through a lot of information, and some people said that "titanium is very strong", and some people said that "titanium is very soft". My personal experience made me more inclined to the latter, and of course I learned why later.
Titanium has a large strength-to-weight ratio, which means that titanium is stronger than stainless steel of the same weight (let's compare it to this). But don't we buy titanium products just to be light, the weight of titanium is reduced, and the hardness is naturally reduced.
Therefore, for most household titanium products, the hardness is relatively low, and it is more prone to scratches and bumps than stainless steel.

The right direction of application
At present, there are many titanium products for household use, but not every titanium product is easy to use.
(1) Thermal insulation丨This is more recommended, such as pure titanium thermos cups. I also have a pure titanium thermos mug myself, which is slightly better than the stainless steel one (but only slightly better, or because it is not heavy enough).
(2) Corrosion resistance丨It is still more recommended, and the corrosion resistance of titanium is even stronger than that of ceramics. Therefore, the water cups that are often used for beverages and dairy products can also be made of pure titanium.

(3) Lightweight丨Don't miss titanium, which is very light and can reduce a lot of weight for you. I don't like outdoor activities, but I usually take a pure titanium thermos cup out of the house, and I think it's very lightweight.
(4) Hardness丨I also see that some kitchen knives, spoons, chopsticks and other cooking utensils are made of pure titanium, which is not recommended. Because pure titanium is so soft, the edges and blades of kitchen knives and spoons will roll up quickly.
(5) Pots and pans丨Titanium pots need to be specially said - if it is used outdoors, in order to reduce weight, it can be selected. If it is used at home, forget it, the heating speed of the titanium pot is slow, the temperature is uneven, it is easy to paste the bottom and the heating is uneven, and the cooking will not be delicious.

Buying is important
The current standard of titanium products is not very perfect, and many businesses like to play word games, and they will pay IQ tax if they are not careful.
(1) Pay attention to the content of "titanium丨Some products will be directly marked with the content, such as "≥ 99%". Some are not marked, but it doesn't matter, as long as the package indicates the implementation of the national standard ("Titanium and Titanium Alloy Grades and Chemical Composition" GB/T3620.1-2016), and indicates that it is "pure titanium".
(2) Some titanium products are "containing titanium"丨The meaning of these two words is rich, and we don't know how much it contains. I bought a non-stick pan that claims to be coated with titanium (and specifically said to be "pure titanium"), and it turned out to be no different from a regular non-stick pan.
(3) There is a material called "titanium steel"丨This is another name for 316L stainless steel, which has nothing to do with titanium, don't be fooled. 316L, as I said in a previous article, is no better than 316 stainless steel for home users.
