Huawei WiFi 7 Router Teardown: Why Qualcomm Chip?

author:with non-nets

Huawei's achievements in the field of communications are obvious to all, so in this issue, we will disassemble Huawei's latest WiFi 7 router - BE3 Pro. Let's take a look at what kind of hardware solutions Huawei will adopt in this world environment.

dismantle

The mold of the router is relatively simple, so it is easy to disassemble. After dismantling, except for the two aluminum sheets used for heat dissipation on the front and back sides, the main circuits are on a large PCB board.

Thanks to the current chip integration, the hardware solution of this router seems relatively simple.

  • Huawei HiSilicon Processor (Hi5651T)
  • 力积电512MB DDR4 SDRAM(A3F4GH40ABF)
  • 旺宏256MB NAND Flash(MX35LF1GE4AB),用于储存路由器的系统和固件信息
  • Qualcomm wireless network chipset (QCN6224)

The main chip is the HiSilicon Lingxiao processor, and in Huawei's own product line, the Hi5651T is the most powerful in this series, integrating a 4-core Arm Cortex-A53 core, a 1.4GHz frequency, and may also support 3-way PCIe. From the perspective of the router's wireless network circuit, Qualcomm QCN6224 + two 2.4G RF front-end chips + two 5G RF front-end chips realize the router's 2*2 MIMO 2.4G and 2*2 MIMO 5G dual-band network. At the same time, it may be due to the protection of the supply chain, the RF front-end chip cannot find the specific chip information, but I personally speculate that it may be a product of Weijie Chuangxin. In addition to some of the chips seen above, there are some very interesting things on the PCB. For example, an empty pad above the wireless network chip, without a chip, what is it? This is actually a different version of the router planned by Huawei, such as the version with a 2.5G wired network port, then it will be equipped with a 2.5G PHY chip, and my version obviously does not have this network port. Not only routers, but also many hardware products distinguish different functions through the addition and subtraction of these hardware.

brief summary

The dismantled hardware scheme is very clear, Huawei Hisilicon Lingxiao processor + Qualcomm wireless network chip + PSMC SDRAM + Macronix NAND Flash, domestic cores still account for the majority. But there is a question worth pondering, forced by the blockade of science and technology, when it comes to the supply of chips in the foreign semiconductor industry, Huawei should actually have the most sense of crisis, so why still use Qualcomm's wireless network chips?
