Editor's note

"It is the wind of the valley that blows our red flag...... We are full of infinite hope and are looking for rich mineral deposits for our motherland. ”

Since the launch of the new round of prospecting breakthrough strategic action, the majority of geologists have vigorously carried forward the fine tradition of patriotic dedication, pioneering and innovation, and hard work, sprinkled wisdom and sweat all over the mountains and rivers, and wrote a new chapter of the era for the geological prospecting industry. "China Natural Resources News" has set up a column of "Geological Footprints in Mountains and Rivers" to show the touching deeds of geological figures and teams through a series of reports, and promote a new round of prospecting breakthrough strategic actions to achieve greater results.

Rooted in the grassroots

He has been deeply involved in geological exploration of coalfields for 30 years

"The 'Yongjing County Jijiawan Coal Survey' we declared was included in the 2024 Provincial Geological Exploration Fund Project by the Gansu Provincial Department of Natural Resources, with a capital of 6.25 million yuan." Ma Daibing, chief engineer of the 149th team of the Gansu Provincial Coalfield Geology Bureau, who is over half a hundred years old, just learned the news and looked happy. "Really, the more I do the geology job, the more I like it, and in the blink of an eye, I am about to do it for a lifetime."

But when he chose to study geology, he was born in a remote mountain village in Qin'an County, Gansu Province, and he didn't even know what geological work was for, only that the salary was high and the benefits were good. It was not until he was admitted to Fuxin Mining Institute (now Liaoning Technical University) that he gradually understood the importance of geological work to economic and social development. After graduating from university in 1993, Ma Daibing returned to Gansu with enthusiasm for the geological cause, starting from an ordinary geological team member and starting a geological life that resonated with the coalfield geology career.

However, in the 90s of the 20th century, the geological industry was not in a recession, and the geological projects of geological exploration units decreased sharply. Since 2000, as the geological industry has recovered, he has also devoted himself to geological projects. He has participated in the completion of dozens of mineral exploration and resource reserve verification projects such as coal, limestone and dolomite, and submitted nearly 1.6 billion tons of coal resources and more than 200 million tons of limestone and dolomite resources.

In July 2017, Ma Daibing was transferred to the chief engineer of the 49th team. He led his colleagues to withstand the pressure of fierce competition in the industry and the reduction of financial projects, and successively implemented 12 coal exploration projects such as the survey of the periphery of the Falagou Coal Mine in Sunan County, submitted nearly 1 billion tons of coal resources, and completed more than 100 reports on various mine services, providing a guarantee and basis for local economic development. In order to continue to explore and innovate, Ma Daibing led the team to break through the traditional exploration field, demonstrated the exploration projects of metal and non-metallic minerals such as the East Lead Luzi Lead-Zinc Mine Survey and the Dayawaist Fluorite Mine Survey, and submitted 130,000 tons of fluorite resources, 50,000 tons of lead and zinc metal and 1 gold exploration target. He participated in the completion of the "Hanjiahugou-Majiatai Coal Detailed Investigation Report of Lanzhou City, Gansu Province", which won the first prize of the 19th High-quality Geological Exploration Report of China Coal Industry Association and the 19th New Mineral Resources Report Award of China Coal Industry Association.

Explore innovation

Achieve a breakthrough of "zero" coalbed methane wells in Gansu

In the past, Ma Daibing was only looking for coal, but in recent years, in addition to looking for coal, he is also looking for gas.

After 2011, Ma Daibing came into contact with a new field - coalbed methane. He has participated in several national academic conferences on coalbed methane, and heard the experience of many brother provinces to introduce themselves. One year, he followed the then captain Li Xiangyin to the coalbed methane development site in a mining area in Shaanxi Province to observe and study. At that time, dozens of coalbed methane wells had been constructed at the mine, one of which was a horizontal well with a daily gas production of nearly 30,000 cubic meters. In the huge mining area, the pillars of fire are blazing, which is very spectacular.

The fire shone on his face and burned his heart even more: this is only a few kilometers away from Lingtai County, Gansu Province, as a province with large coal resources, when will Gansu be able to drill coalbed methane wells?

In 2017, when Team 149 was preparing to submit a detailed investigation report on Hanjiahugou-Majiatai Coal in Honggu District, Lanzhou City, as the chief engineer, he keenly noticed that the test data of the H003 coalbed methane parameter well was very special. After that, through the analysis and study of gas-bearing and reservoir conditions, the technicians believed that the geological conditions of coalbed methane occurrence in this area were good, and it was necessary to carry out further drainage and production tests. With the approval of the Gansu Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the 149th team received early financial support for major projects, and reached a cooperation agreement with Yaojie Coal and Power Group to jointly fund the completion of this work.

On September 14, 2018, the first coalbed methane drainage and production well in Gansu Province was drilled. More than two months later, the project was drilled to a depth of 1,262 meters, completed with casing, and lowered into a production casing with a diameter of 139.6 mm and cemented. Everything went smoothly, and the later stage was a series of links such as well washing, well opening, perforation, and fracturing.

Perforation fracturing is the most critical step. Perforation generally selects the position of the coal seam to be relatively dense, uses a perforating gun to open the channel between the steel pipe and the coal seam, and then uses the fracturing handlebar to design 1000 cubic meters of fracturing fluid and 50 cubic meters of fracturing sand to press into the coal seam in a high-pressure manner of 35 megapascals to open the gas outlet channel. After fracturing, the project personnel use fracturing fluid and groundwater pumping to drain water and reduce pressure, so that the gas adsorbed in the coal seam enters the wellbore and gushes out of the ground.

But at this juncture, there was a sudden fracturing wellhead falling off accident, and the people present panicked. In the face of the unexpected situation, Ma Daibing immediately called a number of domestic experts for advice, and quickly invited the most experienced professional workover team in the country. He stayed at the scene for several days and nights, and finally succeeded in solving this problem.

On May 30, 2019, the well was officially put into production and began to be discharged. After 104 days of drainage and depressurization, the project was finally successfully vented and ignited at 7 o'clock on September 12, achieving a breakthrough of "zero" in the first continuous gas-producing coalbed methane well in Gansu Province. Ma Daibing's face finally showed a smile.

In recent years, the 149th team has firmly grasped the opportunity of a new round of prospecting breakthrough strategic action, and set up a CBM R&D center with Ma Daibing as the technical leader, and has successively won the bid for the second and third phases of surface gas extraction in Haishiwan Coal Mine, as well as a number of coalbed methane (gas) extraction projects such as Jingyuan Coal Industry, with a total contract value of nearly 200 million yuan. In the Haishiwan area alone, the team has built a total of 15 surface coalbed methane extraction wells. As of April 2024, Haishiwan well fields have produced a total of 29.87 million cubic meters of gas, which is the gas consumption of 5,000 households for 25 years and the electricity consumption of 1,000 households for 7 years.

In 2023, Ma Daibing instructed the young technicians of the team to successfully construct the super-large-diameter positive circulation gyratory shaft for surface gas emissions in Haishiwan Coal Mine, which ranks first in the country in terms of comprehensive scale of aperture and hole depth, and has been put into use by Haishiwan Coal Mine. The project not only effectively controls gas disasters and ensures the safe production of mines, but also concentrates the coalbed methane resources that will be used for power generation, which is of great significance to the sustainable development of mining enterprises.

In addition, the second-generation transmitter of the coded source he participated in the research and development was successfully rolled off the production line in 2021, and the three national invention patents applied for "a methane explosion composite water fracturing method" were successfully implemented in 2023. In 2022, he also led the team to complete the construction of the first coalbed methane horizontal well in Gansu Province. As a result, the 149th team gradually became the vanguard of the province's service mines.

Willing to be a ladder for people

We will make every effort to cultivate technical talents

Talent is the sustainable driving force for career development. Ma Daibing always pays attention to the construction of the talent team of the 149th team, and actively holds technical exchange meetings, quality special meetings, new technology application lectures, standard and standard study meetings, etc., to train on behalf of the meeting and increase talent training; At the same time, we will improve the talent reserve policy and establish a complete talent echelon to meet the needs of work in the new era. In order to promote the rapid growth of young technical personnel, Ma Daibing gave them the burden and set goals, let them undertake front-line projects, and at the same time tempered the technical team by hiring experts to guide and review, and carried out relevant technical training for professional and technical personnel from time to time. In recent years, Ma Daibing has given full play to the advantages of professional and technical leaders, set up teams around scientific research projects, actively applied for key laboratories and science and technology innovation centers in Gansu Province, opened up talent delivery channels with universities, increased the introduction of talents, and built a scientific research and innovation platform, so that the technical strength of the 149th team has been continuously improved. In the past five years, there have been more than 30 new geological exploration professionals with deputy senior titles in the team. The team's innovation center, led by Ma Daibing, has always insisted on holding the selection of "professional and technical leaders", continuing the tradition of "mentoring apprentices" and "passing on mentors". The three technicians who studied under Ma Daibing were also commended at the provincial and bureau levels. In 2023, due to his outstanding personal performance, Ma Daibing was awarded the 5th "Longyuan Craftsman" Nomination Award by the Gansu Provincial Federation of Trade Unions and promoted to senior engineer. In January 2024, he was awarded the honorary title of "Advanced Individual in the National Natural Resources System". "Comrade Ma Daibing's spirit of being willing to be the cornerstone and daring to be the first has inspired groups of young geological team members." Xu Yang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Captain of the 149th Team, said. It is the joint efforts of countless geological team members who are silently dedicated and down-to-earth like Ma Daibing that have prompted the 149th team to gallop steadily on the fast track of high-quality development.
