Spectacle | 23 vs. 35, medium and large fuel vehicles are still the winners

Zhejiang car network • car market observation: suddenly like a night of spring breeze, thousands of trees and pear blossoms. The rapid development of new energy medium and large C-class cars in the domestic auto market is like this scenic spot, which is reproduced in the automotive field.

Statistics show that there are currently as many as 58 medium and large C-class sedans on sale in China's auto market. Among them, there are as many as 35 new energy vehicles, accounting for more than half of the entire C-class vehicles, and about one-third more than fuel vehicles. If it had been 10 years ago, even five years ago, it would have been unimaginable.

As a medium and large sedan, the demand for C-class cars is not very large compared to B-class cars and A-class cars. Obviously, they are all taking advantage of the new energy outlet to snatch the cake of fuel vehicles.

What these new energy C-class cars didn't expect was that fuel vehicles were not fuel-efficient lights, although they were not numerically advantageous, they still thwarted the siege of these new energy vehicles.

According to the data in the table, from January to May 2024, the total sales of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are new energy vehicles, will only be 219943 units, which is more than 26,000 units less than that of fuel vehicles. This means that in the medium and large C-class sedan market, although new energy vehicles are surging, and there is an endless stream of gold diggers, 35 new energy vehicles cannot compete with 23 fuel vehicles.

However, if you look at the sales gap, the gap between the two is not very large. In terms of market share, new energy vehicles have reached 47.2% in the C-class sedan market, and they have begun to approach fuel vehicles, and there is a tendency to share the world with fuel vehicles.

It is worth noting that at present, C-class new energy vehicles are flooded with a large number of low-end models, which are all sold at the price of B-class cars, but in terms of body size and wheelbase, they have reached the standard of C-class cars. Like BYD Han, Nezha S, Dongfeng Yipai eπ007 and other C-class cars, their entry prices are below 170,000 yuan, and there are not some mainstream B-class cars with high entry prices, and their competitors are mainly B-class cars. The sales of this part of the low-end models are as high as about 140,000 units, accounting for more than half of the new energy C-class vehicles. The entry price of more than 200,000 yuan in the high-end new energy C-class car is about 80,000 units.

In other words, only about 80,000 new energy C-class vehicles are basically competitors of medium and large fuel C-class vehicles. Because of the price of 23 fuel C-class cars, the entry price is more than 290,000 yuan. There are even fewer new energy vehicles that can compete with fuel C-class cars at this price point.

In addition, although the number of C-class fuel vehicles is less than that of new energy vehicles, the hot-selling models and classic models are far more than C-class new energy vehicles, such as Mercedes-Benz E-class, BMW 5 Series and Audi A6L, which have long occupied the top three in the sales of the entire C-class car, and it is often easy to sell more than 10,000 per month. In the mid-to-high-end new energy C-class cars, the average monthly sales can be about 8,000 units, which is already a feather phoenix, and most of the models are just making up the numbers, and it is difficult to say when they suddenly disappear from the market.

Therefore, under the same price conditions, if new energy vehicles want to beat fuel vehicles in the C-class car market, at present, the hope is very slim, and the hegemony of fuel vehicles in the C-class car market is difficult to be easily subverted. Because for mid-to-high-end C-class car owners who pay more attention to the car experience, avoiding range anxiety and charging troubles, and pursuing the comfort, convenience, reliability and safety of the car is what they want.
