Ignoring the public sentiment and public opinion in Europe, the EU's top brass put on a clumsy show, which will only lead to division

author:Times Concern

Some time ago, with the results of the European Parliament elections, the rise of a large number of right-wing parties caused the whole of Europe to fall into a huge political turmoil from left to right. Specifically, French President Emmanuel Macron announced early parliamentary elections in an attempt to reverse the situation in which right-wing parties already had an initial advantage; Germany's right-wing AfD party won more votes than Chancellor Olaf Scholz's SPD. As the leading countries of the European Union, Germany and France have not been able to curb the rise of right-wing political parties, and it is conceivable that the right-wing political forces in other small countries are obviously in full swing. However, in this situation, the top echelons of the left-wing political elite, who have not yet lost power, are still in a dying struggle.

Ignoring the public sentiment and public opinion in Europe, the EU's top brass put on a clumsy show, which will only lead to division

Recently, the EU did two major things on the same day, one is that the leaders of EU member states agreed to von der Leyen to continue as president of the European Commission, and at the same time agreed to nominate Estonian Prime Minister Kallas to replace Borrell as EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. Another thing is that the EU officially launched Ukraine's accession negotiations, which happened to be stuck just before Hungary assumed the rotating presidency, which made Hungarian Prime Minister Orban very dissatisfied.

Obviously, the left-wing elite at the top of the EU is now very impatient and trying to finalize a series of major decisions. It's actually very simple for them to do so. The first is to preserve the continuity of left-wing policies in the coming years. In the past few years, due to the unlimited support of left-wing politicians in the EU on the Russia-Ukraine issue and the unlimited compromise on the US issue, the EU people have gradually aroused dissatisfaction with the left-wing ruling party. This dissatisfaction has now been reflected in the European Parliament elections, and will be reflected in the election results of more and more EU countries in the future, once the situation develops to that point, then the current sanctions against Russia, aid to Ukraine, compromise with the United States and a series of policies may be subverted. Under such circumstances, if the top EU leaders represented by von der Leyen can be retained in advance and the Estonian leader who is tough on Russia and close to the United States can be chosen as foreign minister, then even if the right-wing parties come to power en masse later, they will not be able to shake some of the established left-wing policies in the short term. It can be seen that for these left-wing politicians, the public opinion in Europe is not important, but the approval of the United States is important.

Second, to protect left-wing political forces from devastating damage. At present, a large number of left-wing political forces in the EU are obviously aware of the irreversibility of the rise of the right, but this does not mean that the left is willing to voluntarily give up its grip on power. Therefore, they are still in power and spare no effort to install their own people in the EU bloc, which is nothing more than hoping to retain more left-wing political forces while restricting and restraining the right-wing.

Truth be told, the outcome of the choice of the European people should be followed. The manipulation of the EU's left-wing ruling forces may be useful, but this left-right struggle is likely to anger the right-wing parties that are about to take power. The right-wing political forces in Europe themselves have focused on emphasizing European interests and their own national interests, and as a result, the left-wing has tried to play checks and balances in advance, which is undoubtedly a wrong and clumsy performance, and has sown a big thunder of division in Europe. In the future, either the left and right wings will completely tear their faces, or there will be new countries in the EU to withdraw.
