Today (1st) is the 27th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, and a number of tertiary institutions held flag-raising ceremonies to celebrate the return to the motherland, including the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, etc.
The University of Hong Kong
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) held a flag-raising ceremony this morning, which was attended by President Cheung Cheung, Council Chairman Wong Pui-sze, representatives of the Council and the Senate, staff, students and invited guests. The University of Hong Kong (HKU) said that as an important part of Hong Kong, HKU has always been committed to promoting academic excellence, innovation and social responsibility, and contributing to the development of the country and Hong Kong. In recent years, it has made remarkable achievements in many fields and won international acclaim.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) also held a flag-raising ceremony, with nearly 200 guests braving the rain on campus and more than 3,700 spectators watching the live broadcast online. The ceremony continued to be conducted by the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force Parade and Flag Raising Team, and for the first time, the Auxiliary Police Band performed live. After the flag-raising ceremony, guests sang the HKUST anthem to unite the University community and wish Hong Kong continued prosperity with the support of the motherland.
Hong Kong Baptist University
At the Hong Kong Baptist University Flag-raising Ceremony, the HKBU Student Flag Raising Team was responsible for hoisting the national flag of the People's Republic of China, the regional flag of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the University flag. Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the HKBU Council and Court, Mr Clement Chan, said that while Hong Kong and the country are developing steadily, HKBU is committed to contributing to the nation and the people in education and scientific research and innovation, and is committed to nurturing future pillars in line with the vision of rejuvenating the country through science and education.
About 150 members of the HKBU Council and Court, university executives, staff, alumni and students attended the ceremony.
Hong Kong Metropolitan University
The Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) held a flag-raising ceremony at the Jockey Club campus this morning. Nearly 200 HKMU members, including HKMU Council members, university management, staff and students, attended the ceremony and expressed their wish for Hong Kong's continued prosperity and progress.
HKMU said that in order to foster national awareness among students, HKMU hoists the national flag on campus every day, and holds national flag-raising ceremonies every Monday morning, as well as on important days such as New Year's Day, the anniversary of the establishment of the HKSAR and the National Day.
