Take a trip to Cuihua Mountain Landslide National Geopark

author:Traveling with mom and dad

Located in Chang'an District, Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, my parents and I have been here twice, and today (June 30, 2024) is the third time.

The first time we walked around Tianchi, and the second time, we climbed the mountain to Ganqiu Pond. Today we first went to the Cuihua Mountain Global Geopark Museum, then went to the wind and ice caves, and climbed to the observation deck. It increases knowledge, makes me feel better, and benefits my body.

The ticket is 65 yuan/adult, the parking fee is 25 yuan/car, and the car can enter the scenic spot.

1. Geological Museum

The museum is not big, and after entering, there is a video theater, minerals, and rock exhibition halls.

1. Harvest

(1) Preliminary understanding of the causes of landforms

By watching the 5-minute promotional video in the broadcast hall and referring to relevant articles on the Internet, I learned about the reasons for the formation of the geological landscape of the Qinling Mountains and the Cuihua Mountain landslide.

Generally speaking, about 400 million years ago, the northern part of the Qinling Mountains was land, the south was the ocean, the south and north of the Qinling Mountains collided and squeezed each other, the southern part was uplifted, and the sea surface was exposed, about 195 million years ago, the Qinling Mountains were completely isolated from the sea, and the majestic posture was basically formed;

12,000 years ago, the Qinling Mountains experienced many earthquakes, the mountain collapsed, and the rockfalls were superimposed, forming the landslide landform of Cuihua Mountain.

There are three phases of landslides in Cuihua Mountain, the first stage of which forms eighteen pan collapse bodies and dammed lakes; In the second stage, ice wind tunnels and stone sea avalanches were formed; In the third stage, the collapse of the Shengtai was formed, and the stone volume was the smallest.

(2) Know the scope of Jungnan Mountain Global Geopark

Qinling Zhongnanshan Global Geopark is located in the main part of the collision and consolidation of China's northern and southern continental plates, starting from Zhouzhi County Heihe Scenic Area in the west to Wangshunshan Scenic Area in Lantian County in the east.

The main scenic spots include: Heihe, Cuihua Mountain, Nanwutai, Taiping, Zhuque, Lishan, Wangshun Mountain Scenic Area, each with its own characteristics.

2. Defects

On the whole, I feel that the geological museum is more artistic and not scientific enough.

For example, in a 5-minute promotional video, the artistic rendering effect in the front takes up a bit of time, and the explanation of the cause is a little hasty in the back. The scale of the landslide landform of Cuihua Mountain is the first in China and the third in the world. Curiosity about this landscape is also one of the main motivations for visiting here.

For example, as learned in middle school textbooks, chemical elements form minerals, minerals make up rocks, and rocks are divided into three categories according to their origins: magmatic rocks, sedimentary rocks, and metamorphic rocks.

There are many rocks and minerals on display in the museum, but they are not divided according to the type of rock, and the display of rocks and minerals is only placed for the sake of good looks, and there is no relationship between rocks and minerals, which lacks logic. Looking at the rare and beautiful rocks and minerals, there is a kind of visual fatigue, flashing in a hurry, and I don't want to stay.

Coming out of the museum, we sat down and rested outside the Cuihua Mountain Book House next to it. At this time, a tour group of elementary school students came from Jiexiu, Shanxi. I think they can only watch the fun.

2. Wind and ice caves

1. Wind tunnel

The collapsed boulders cling to each other, forming narrow cave passages about 30 meters long and 1.5-2 meters wide. Due to the narrow tube effect, the air circulates quickly, forming a wind tunnel.

We walked into the wind tunnel, the light was dim, it was unusually cool, my father liked it, my mother was afraid of the cold, so she quickly put on her coat.

2. Ice caves

A cave formed by collapsing stones stacked on top of each other. Due to the heat insulation of the huge granite, the temperature in the cave is low, resulting in natural icing in the cave, so it is called the ice cave. There is currently no natural ice in the cave.

An electronic sign at the entrance of the ice cave shows that the temperature inside the cave is 1.9 degrees Celsius today. After entering, I suddenly felt the cold and cold, and I saw that there were artificial ice and snow blocks in the cave.

After walking for a while, I met a young girl, who said it was too cold and didn't want to go. Seeing this, my mother, who was afraid of the cold, was worried that she and her father would catch a cold, so she hurriedly returned the same way. Come to think of it, my father was less than 100 days after surgery.

3. Observation deck

Coming out of the ice cave, about 200 meters away, we reached the observation deck. From the observation deck, you can enjoy the landslide landscape of Cuihua Mountain from different perspectives.

At about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, the scenic spot broadcast to inform the weather forecast that there will be heavy precipitation within 2 hours! To be on the safe side, we drove out of the scenic area slowly.

On the way home, it rained heavily. Shi Hai, save it for next time. Cuihua Mountain Landslide Geopark, a treasure-like scenic spot.
