The amount of microflora in the Seine exceeded the standard several times. Studies have shown that too high levels of these two bacteria can lead to the danger of conjunctivitis, gastroenteritis, and even staphylococcal infections.

In order to reduce the impact of rainfall on the water quality of the Seine, a reservoir with a capacity of 50 million cubic meters in the southeast of Paris has recently been opened to hold untreated sewage.
If the water quality of the Seine is not up to standard by then, the open water swimming competition will be postponed for a few days, but the location will not be changed, according to the alternative.
