Jaguar boss Rawdon Glover revealed his grand plans for the brand during an exclusive tour of Jaguar Land Rover's new technology factory in Portland, Oregon. All of Jaguar's existing models, including the I-Pace, will be discontinued in the coming years to make way for a new era of cars. These models will all be fully electric – there will be no plug-in hybrids or diesel locomotives.

Glover quotes Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons: "The best thing about Jaguar is that it's good for nothing. The new cars planned will be more luxurious than past models, with prices ranging from US$100,000 (£79,000) to US$200,000 (£160,000). These models won't have the front-facing cab look common to many of today's electric vehicles. Instead, it will be designed to be different.

Following the success of high-end models such as the Land Rover Defender and Range Rover Sport, Jaguar Cars will follow a similar path. Jaguar Cars' target customers are likely to be younger, more affluent groups, or they might consider Porsche, Bentley or Rolls-Royce.

The vehicles will use a single new architecture, not shared with any other Jaguar Land Rover Group model, and will form three new models. According to Glover, the first model will set the standard and will be a four-door GT with a range of over 420 miles and very fast charging times – from 10% to 80% in less than 20 minutes – and using the North American charging standard in the United States (CCS in the United Kingdom).

Jaguar also plans to launch a range of electric services to support these vehicles. These include home charging, destination charging, and public charging solutions, as well as concierge services that can send someone to your home to charge your vehicle at night.

More information about these cars is expected to be announced in the second half of 2024, with the first preview of the first car taking place in early 2025. The model will hit the road by the end of 2025.

The second model is expected to be released in 2026 and the third in 2027. While Glover is reluctant to reveal what type of models these models are, it mentions the high-end models that are currently popular on the market. My guess is that these models will include an SUV or a crossover that would be on par with the Jaguar F-Pace or the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, though I'd also like to see a two-door Jaguar F-type or a Bentley Continental style.

The cars will certainly be built with Jaguar's performance genes in mind, and there are plans to launch a 1000ps model in the lineup. The opening of this new technology center in Portland demonstrates the company's commitment to its technology products, such as the Pivi Pro infotainment system, which will continue to be used in these new Jaguar electric vehicles. However, its location means it's best suited to continue working with NVIDIA and other big tech companies on the West Coast.

Some will breathe a sigh of relief to hear that this makeover won't make the "jumping cat" motif on the Jaguar badge disappear. However, Glover hinted that as part of the makeover, we might see a new look at the classic Jaguar badge.

While all of these new models seem to be a long way off, Jaguar Land Rover has a lot to keep us busy at the moment. Range Rover electric vehicles are expected to launch later this year, while the new plug-in hybrid Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models are available now.
