The valley of the wind, in line with the direction of the summer wind

Lishan Primary School is located at the foot of the mountain on the west side of Danan Mountain in Shenzhen. The summer wind blows from the sea and passes through the pass between the Great and Small South Mountains, bringing a clear southwesterly wind to the site. The survey coincided with a stormy day, and the wind blowing along the mountain road confirmed the macro conjecture from the micro level. In line with the wind direction, we arranged the main buildings of the campus along the long side to form the campus wind valley.

interface, responding to future changes

The site faces the Danan Hill side and is a residential area under construction, and the future high-density residential towers will block the view of the Danan Mountain. Under the demand for high-density space development in Shenzhen, the E2 land in the northwest is likely to be developed.

△ Site analysis ©MLA+ mu plus

The only two long sides of the site will be greatly changed in terms of interface properties and landscape line of sight. On the other hand, on the two short sides, you can see the remaining slope of Danan Mountain and the top of Xiaonan Mountain, and there is potential to retain a stable mountain view corridor.

Along the mountain road, there is a pleasant community green corridor

As the main travel road in the area, the mountain road has the potential to become a community green corridor with its pleasant scale, wide and shaded street trees, and the surrounding life-oriented bottom business interface.

Therefore, we arranged the campus entrance square, library, gymnasium, dance box and other shareable functional spaces on the side of Yanshan Road, so that they can form a community corridor together with community green space, commercial plaza and kindergarten. The elevated main entrance plaza is convenient for parents to pick up and drop-off; The library interface can be separated or combined, which is convenient for flexible sharing; The sheltered Lingnan arcade space is open to the neighborhood; The time-sharing gymnasium connects the adjacent kindergarten with the entrance of the future Danan Mountain hiking trail.

Terraces, a sequence of public spaces that conform to the topography

The height difference between the original topography of the site from south to north is 4 meters, and in order to resolve the height difference between the entrance of the campus and the playground, we raised the playground by 4 meters and set it at an elevation of 8 meters. The site is divided into four tiers of terraces, which are raised from 0 to 8 meters. At the same time, each terrace is cut on the left and right sides of the teaching island building, leaving the "air outlet" between the city and the mountain, forming several islands instead of continuous street walls. The four-storey terrace also connects the teaching spaces on both sides at different elevations.

Four campus terraces with different themes

The 2-meter, 4-meter, 6-meter, and 8-meter-high terraces not only resolve the height difference, but also shape the core public space sequence of the campus from the campus entrance plaza to the game courtyard and then to the Wangshan playground.

The four-story terrace corresponds to four different themes:

Shade Terrace: provides a shaded entrance space for students;

Game Table: The undulating roof of the professional classroom on the ground floor becomes a fun hill, creating a playground for young students to play and play;

Wind collection platform: climb the stairs, look back at the top of Xiaonan Mountain at the flag-raising platform of the campus, and the breeze is blowing;

Vitality Terrace: The 200-meter standard sports field and the three-dimensional composite wind and rain court have become the main venues for teachers and students to release their sports vitality.

Meet the platform chassis of different floor heights

Music, art, lecture hall, wind and rain playground, canteen and other teaching spaces with different floor height requirements together constitute the bottom layer of the platform, making the height difference of the platform more reasonable and economical. A partially airy floor-to-ceiling courtyard provides daylight and ventilation for the professional classrooms on the ground floor. The elevated wind and rain playground is open on both sides to maximize natural ventilation and reduce energy consumption.

Island Tower, frame system provides flexibility

Three teaching island buildings are arranged along the side of the mountain road on the site, facing the Great South Mountain and the Wind Valley. On the south side, ordinary classrooms are arranged in groups, and the terraces are set back to form a south-facing terrace one by one. The north side of the island building adopts a frame structure system to arrange traffic and teaching service spaces. From top to bottom, the teaching island building is expanded layer by floor, and the frame structure provides the possibility of flexible reorganization of the teaching service space, which can be renovated and replaced according to the needs of the school in the future. Reading rooms, club rooms, discussion rooms, workshops, teachers' offices and other auxiliary spaces can be flexibly switched and reorganized here, which is a flexible and changeable "docking station".

Multi-layer shared, efficient series connection of the teaching island chassis

The teaching island is equipped with high-frequency science classrooms, computer classrooms and other specialized classrooms below the 8-meter elevation, which are connected to the upper ordinary classrooms through vertical transportation, ensuring the efficient transfer of students between ordinary classrooms and specialized classrooms within 10 minutes between classes. At the same time, there is a 4-meter-high reading room and an 8-meter-high reading theater on the first floor of the mountain road, which realizes time-sharing with the community by setting up management boundaries. The enlarged ground floor space is equipped with a high atrium and an overhead area, allowing wind and light to penetrate through the chassis of the teaching island.

Transition from private to public spaces

From the mountain road to the teaching island, and then to the Wind Valley Courtyard, the scheme forms a cross-sectional sequence in the plane layout, which is the Wind Valley Courtyard - Retreat - Classroom - Inner Corridor - Flexible teaching or service functions, and also completes the transition from public - sub-public - private - service space. The south-facing setback of the ordinary classroom is not only a terrace with a view of the natural mountains, but also a transition from Wind Valley to the classroom interior. The ordinary classrooms of the bilateral corridor, with an inner corridor on one side and a terrace on the other, can be opened or closed on both interfaces, providing a variety of flexible scenarios for teaching. The terraces are interconnected and serve as an extension space for each classroom and a communication space for adjacent classrooms. The educational perception of stepping out of the terrace and facing nature takes place here.

The service island on the east side consists of a teacher's dormitory building and an administrative building. In addition to the efficient and compact main space, the inner side expands to the wind valley to form the third space of the "island within the island", which is used as a new teaching space and teacher activity space while limiting the enclosure of the terraced courtyard, and the plane can be freely divided and arranged or even completely opened to the courtyard. It also continues the transition from intimate to open, formal to informal spaces.
