BYD, Chery, Great Wall, and Geely reviewed production and sales from January to June

author:HR Real Name Club

Recently, it is the time for the performance review of the first half of the year and the strategic adjustment of the second half of the year

For example, the performance exceeded expectations, at a time when morale was high, such as Geely Automobile, the annual sales target was raised from 1.9 million to 2 million.

When the performance did not meet expectations, the bosses began to go down in person, such as the bosses of Xiaopeng Motors and the bosses of Great Wall Motors, who drove live broadcasts on the whole network in person, trying to boost the confidence of employees and suppliers.

Today, let's take a look at the production and sales of BYD, Chery, Great Wall, and Geely's official versions from January to June.

【Main Highlights】

  • SAIC was "encircled and suppressed", the export volume was surpassed by Chery, and the vehicle sales were caught up by BYD.
  • From January to June, BYD sold 1.61 million units, Chery sold 1.1 million units, Geely sold 950,000 units, and Great Wall sold 560,000 units.
  • BYD is the king of new energy, Chery is the strongest in the overseas market, and Geely Automobile has the most "vests".

1. BYD's sales

In June, BYD sold 341,000 units in a single month, 90,000 more than last year, and a total of 1.612 million units from January to June, a year-on-year increase of 28%.

In 2024, BYD's annual sales target is 3.6 million, and at present, the target progress has been completed by 45%.

This means that in the next 6 months, BYD will maintain sales of more than 333,000 per month.

The pressure is still there.

Compared with the three independent brands, BYD's main weakness is the volume of overseas exports, and overseas sales are currently about 30,000 yuan per month.

Here's the good news:

  • On June 7, BYD opened 108 stores in Thailand and 300 stores in the Asia-Pacific region, which is an important milestone for BYD to expand the Asia-Pacific market.
  • On June 27, BYD's Uzbekistan plant officially rolled off the assembly line for the first batch of mass-produced new energy vehicles (Song plus DM-i Champion Edition), which mainly caters to the Central Asian market, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 units in the first phase.
  • Japanese market: According to data from Japanese auto importer JAIA, at the beginning of the year, BYD ranked second on the list of pure electric vehicles imported from Japan, and BYD plans to open 100 stores in Japan by 2025.
  • European market: At the beginning of the year, BYD announced the construction of a production base in Hungary, and BYD has now opened 250 sales stores in 20 European countries.

Overall, BYD is still in the stage of sales distribution in overseas markets, and it will take time to build production bases and supply chains.

2. Chery Automobile

According to the battle report of Chery Automobile's official account this morning.

In June, Chery sold 200,000 vehicles in a single month, and from January to June, a total of 1.1 million, a record high, a year-on-year increase of 48%.

Among them, Chery's new energy vehicle sales were 44,000 in a single month, surpassing GAC Aion (35,000).

From January to June, it accumulated 180,000, and is currently in the same echelon as Li Auto (188,000) and Cialis (200,000).

The more astonishing result is that Chery Automobile exported 530,000 units, accounting for 48% of the total sales.

As of May, SAIC exported 80,000 vehicles per month, and from January to May, SAIC exported a total of 400,000 vehicles from overseas bases, and Chery's exports exceeded SAIC's.

And then from the perspective of capacity utilization.

The production lines of BYD and Chery are about to "smoke", and the capacity utilization rate of the two companies is the only one exceeding 80%.

3. Production and sales of Geely automobiles

In June, Geely Automobile (Geely + Zeekr + Lynk & Co) sold a total of 166,000 units in a single month, and a total of 955,000 units from January to June, a year-on-year increase of 41%.

Among them, ZEEKR delivered an average of 20,000 per month, with a total of 87,000 from January to June, maintaining a level with NIO.

It is worth mentioning that Geely Automobile's automobile exports have increased significantly, with 35,000 exports in a single month, with a total of 197,000, accounting for 20% of sales, a year-on-year increase of 67%.

Unlike BYD and Chery, Geely Holding Group, the parent company of Geely Automobile, is very good at multi-brand operation, and has N more car brands under its hands.

For example, the Swedish brand "Volvo", the British brand "Lotus + LEVC", the German brand Mercedes-Benz "Smart", the Korean brand "Renault", and the Malaysian brand "Proton". Some are direct mergers and acquisitions, and some are joint ventures.

In other words, in overseas markets, in the face of high tariff barriers from countries such as the European Union, Geely Automobile may be the most calm.

If BYD is a vertical integration expert (from mining to battery manufacturing, from vehicle design to production), Geely Automobile is a horizontal integration expert (platform resources are maximized, like Zeekr and Lynk & Co benefit from Volvo's R&D and design).

Affected by the strong performance improvement, Geely Automobile's sales target for this year has been raised from 1.9 million to 2 million.

4. Great Wall Motors

In June, Great Wall sold 98,000 units in a single month, a month-on-month decrease of 6.6%, and a total of 559,000 units from January to June, a year-on-year increase of 7.8%.

Great Wall Motors, the cumulative half-year sales are actually increasing, but compared with the double-digit high growth of the top three, it feels like Great Wall Motors is "declining".

In recent months, Great Wall Motor's sales have declined significantly from brands such as Great Wall Pickup and Ora.

The performance highlight of the Great Wall is also the overseas market, with overseas sales of 38,000 in a single month, and a total of 200,000 sales from January to June.

However, compared with Great Wall Motor's annual sales target of 1.9 million, only 29% has been completed at present, and the pressure in the second half of the year is very high.
