Director of Recruitment – Vivier joins, Mary joins Grand Paris on a two-year contract

Manchester United are working to appoint Christopher Vivel to a short-term position to help with the summer transfer window.

This is the latest step in the Old Trafford club's efforts to build the sporting fabric under new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

Previously with RB Leipzig and most recently at Chelsea, Vivier will provide expertise in talent identification and player recruitment.

Any appointment will come a year after his separation from Chelsea, which was restructured under the leadership of two co-sporting directors, Lawrence Stewart and Paul Winstanley.

The 37-year-old German will also bring to Manchester United experience of operating in a multi-club model, something the new leadership is expected to explore in the future.

Manchester United confirmed a deal to appoint Dan Ashworth as new sporting director on Monday, following an agreement with Newcastle United.

He will report to Omar Bellada, another newcomer who will begin his role as chief executive later this month, after joining from Manchester City.

Jason Wilcox, a former member of Southampton, has already started his career in the position of Technical Director.

Vivier joined Chelsea as Technical Director in December 2022 before leaving Stamford Bridge in July 2023.

Here's a list of the talents that Vivier has identified in the Red Bull line:

Red Bull Salzburg:

1. Amadou Haidara

2. Dominique Szobosloy

3. Karim Adeyemi

4. Erling Haaland

5. Benjamin Sesko

6. Takumi Minamino

7. Naby Keita

RB Leipzig:

8. Joshko Gvardiol

9. Angelinho

10. Timo Werner

11. Muhammad Simakan

Earps signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain after his departure from Manchester United was confirmed last Saturday.

Earps flew to Paris on Friday for a medical check-up, signed a contract and filmed promotional content with his new club. The decision to leave Manchester United and sign for Paris Saint-Germain was a difficult choice that was not finally made until last weekend.

"Joining PSG is a fantastic opportunity," Earps said of her new club. "I'm very honored to be a Parisian and I can't wait to play alongside my new teammates.

"Together, we will give it our all to help the club shine and make our fans proud. I am determined to contribute to our future success so that PSG continues to have a place in Europe's top clubs." ”

Upon his departure, Earps told supporters that it was "the right time to make changes and take on new challenges" and that the club was "about to go through a period of transition".

Earps is currently continuing her recovery from an injury sustained in France's 2-1 European Championship qualifying defeat at the end of May with England. England will play Ireland and Sweden on 12 and 16 July respectively for two Euro 2025 qualifiers, with Earps expected to remain in the squad for that time.

Paris Saint-Germain will begin team training for the 2024-25 season in mid-July, depending on the player's international assignment. They will travel to Australia for pre-season from August 25 to September 2.

Paris Saint-Germain won the 2022-23 season last season by trailing Lyon by 11 points in the Women's League.

Manchester United, meanwhile, have been heavily criticised in recent weeks for managing their women's squad amid growing discontent with the club.

Last month, British media revealed that Manchester United's women's squad will move out of the £11 million training facility built for the women's team and the academy in order to make room for the men's first team in the 2024-25 season.

Manchester United finished fifth in the Women's Super League (WSL) last season, the lowest league position since promotion in 2018-19, but won the FA Cup, the first major honour for a women's team.

Since joining United from Wolfsburg in 2019, Earps has made 125 appearances for the Reds and 50 for England.

In January, she was voted FIFA's Best Women's Goalkeeper for the second year in a row, becoming the first two-time winner in the award's history.
