Now that the Hongqi-17AE is in service, how far is the Chinese 35-mm self-propelled anti-aircraft gun?
Serbia is currently developing a self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery / missile system on its own: the Bofors L/70 40mm anti-aircraft gun (with a maximum rate of fire of 320 rounds per minute and an effective range of 4,000 meters), 4 Russian-made 9K32/38 portable surface-to-air missiles (domestic RLN-1C and RLN-1C170 surface-to-air missiles, RLN-RF surface-to-air missiles), Israeli-made MHR RPS-42 active phased array radar, electronic jammers, etc. stable performance (inability to deal with swarms of UAVs and high-speed guided munitions);
Therefore, after obtaining the Hongqi-17AE, Serbia can consider replacing the weapons of the Bofors L/70 40mm anti-aircraft gun: according to his idea of purchasing air defense systems, it is very suitable to purchase Chinese 35mm anti-aircraft guns. Moreover, there are quite a lot of foreign trade models of China's 35mm anti-aircraft guns: after the Serbian army completed the military reform in 2021, the main anti-aircraft guns are the old Bofors L/70 40mm anti-aircraft guns (72 pieces). Then, he can choose a variety of Chinese foreign trade anti-aircraft guns;
The Chinese CS/AA3 anti-aircraft gun is equipped with a muzzle velocimeter-fixed integrated coil, which has the ability to use Ahed's ammunition. In addition, his rate of fire and systems are all contemporary advanced anti-aircraft gun configurations, which meet the air defense needs of the Serbian army's key areas - but they do not meet the requirements of self-propriation;
The foreign trade self-propelled anti-aircraft gun is equipped with a three-in-one detection system consisting of a search radar, a tracking radar, and an optoelectronic system. The search radar uses a pulsed L-band Doppler search radar and a fire control tracking radar, and the search range is said to reach 20-30 kilometers. The self-propelled anti-aircraft artillery of the foreign trade type can ensure the search and tracking of the target that needs to be attacked in conditions that are unfavorable for the operation of optoelectronic equipment such as smoke, clouds and rain. The main optoelectronic fire control combination consisted of a thermal imager, a white light camera, a laser rangefinder and an infrared goniometer – however, it was too expensive for the Cypriots to afford;
625E: This projectile and artillery system is more in line with the current situation of the Serbian army. An active phased array fire control radar with a two-dimensional phase-scan system, with 360-degree omnidirectional rotation, guides anti-aircraft artillery and anti-aircraft missile firing, and an additional optoelectronic fire channel (television and thermal imaging module) can be used as a backup fire control unit - easy maintenance, advanced configuration, and reasonable price;
Serbia has a production line and experience in improving the M55 series of three-barreled 20-mm anti-aircraft guns: the Serbian army also has about 60 improvised self-propelled anti-aircraft guns. Therefore, the 625E can be quickly integrated into its air defense system.
The Serbian army is different from our army: the self-propelled anti-aircraft missiles and self-propelled anti-aircraft guns purchased by him are not used to accompany the armored brigades in combat, but to guard key points and FK-3 missiles, therefore, it will not purchase self-propelled anti-aircraft guns in large quantities. Therefore, the 625E is undoubtedly the preferred choice.
