According to reports, AirAsia X has had a strong start to the year, with a solid financial position and a high load factor, consolidating its position as a market leader in the route network. Following the successful launch of a direct route from Kuala Lumpur to Almaty, the capital of Kazakhstan, in March this year, the company entered the Central Asian market for the first time, and the company has taken another step forward with the launch of a new Kuala Lumpur-Nairobi route connecting Asia and Africa, further expanding the company's global route network.

The Nairobi route will be an important link between Asia and Africa, and will enable trade, tourism and commerce within the region in the future. AirAsia X will enhance connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi by offering direct flights between the two countries, further promoting economic cooperation and development opportunities between the two countries.

AirAsia X will further provide connecting services to establish key connections between Kenya and 130 destinations in Southeast Asia, North Asia, Central Asia and Australia. This initiative will provide all travelers with an affordable and convenient travel option, while reinforcing the company's strong commitment to global connectivity.

Malaysia's Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, YB Datuk Seri Teo Keng Sin said, "AirAsia X is proud and celebrated for Malaysia to launch its first Nairobi service. For more than two decades, AirAsia has successfully bridged the gap between Asia, Australia and beyond and Malaysia. Today, we look forward to welcoming more visitors from Kenya to explore Malaysia's beautiful destinations, including Kuching, Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Penang, Langkawi and more. Especially as we move towards our goal of 'Malaysia Year of Tourism 2026', we expect to attract 35.6 million tourists with a target of RM147.1 billion in revenue. ”

Tony Fernandez, Chief Executive Officer of Capital A, said, "We are thrilled to announce the launch of AirAsia's new non-stop service between Malaysia and Kenya. This milestone comes on the heels of our 15th consecutive year being named Skytrax's World's Best Low-Cost Airline. It further demonstrates our ongoing commitment to providing affordable travel options. The new route not only provides a direct bridge between Asia and Africa, but also heralds the continued strengthening of tourism, commerce and trade between the two continents. The opening of this route is our first step towards the new continent of Africa. Despite our origins in Asia and ASEAN, we have always cherished the grand dream of building Kuala Lumpur into a global low-cost aviation hub. This expansion brings us one step closer to realizing this vision, providing a solid foundation for building a global network and exploring new opportunities. ”

Mr. Benyamin Ismail, Chief Executive Officer of AirAsia X added, "We are incredibly excited to embark on our new journey to Africa, which is a perfect fit with the strong growth we showed earlier this year. We expect more than 156,000 passengers to travel through this route each year, which will not only deepen the connection between Malaysia and Kenya, but also boost tourism development in both countries. At the same time, this route provides excellent connectivity opportunities for us to other important markets including Australia, China, South Korea, Japan and Thailand. Travellers from these areas can now travel to Kenya more affordably and enjoy convenient transit services in Kuala Lumpur. Both Malaysia and Kenya are vibrant countries with millions of people known for their rich cultural heritage and stunning natural beauty. We look forward to further strengthening cultural and economic exchanges between these dynamic regions through this new route." ”
