As of June 30, 2024, the number of readers in Dunhuang Library has exceeded 1.3 million, and the number of books and periodicals borrowed has exceeded 260,000, adding a strong touch to the library's business and opening a new era of reading for all people in Dunhuang.
The new library of Dunhuang City was officially opened on April 23, 2017, with 14 functional areas, including children's area, reading area, borrowing area, self-study room, ancient book reference room, lecture hall and book bar. The library has a collection of 287,000 books, 12,000 electronic books, more than 4,000 periodicals, and 82,000 documents included in the Dunhuang Characteristic Library. 10,243 library cards were issued, with an average of 900 visitors per day and a maximum of 2,585 visitors per day. Since the opening of the new museum, it has adhered to the service concept of "readers first", and promoted the construction of cultural empowerment city with the construction of positions as the carrier; Promote the high-quality development of reading for all people with reading activities as the carrier; With the construction of the library as the carrier, the deepening of the cluster business has been continuously improved, and the public welfare of the library serving the society has been fully exerted. Dunhuang Library was awarded the "National Reading Demonstration Base" by the Library Association of China. In November 2023, Dunhuang Library was once again rated as a national first-class public library.
