Symptoms of ichthyosis

The symptoms of ichthyosis can usually be divided into four conditions: dominantly inherited ichthyosis vulgaris, sex-linked hereditary ichthyosis, lamellar ichthyosis, and epidermolytic hyperkeratosis.

Dominantly inherited ichthyosis vulgaris

The skin limbs are dry and coarse, with thin scales, white translucent to brown, polygonal, arranged like fish scales. Mainly on the sides of the limbs and back, generally without conscious symptoms, onset between 1-4 years old, heavy in winter and light in summer, can be accompanied by pericarpular keratosis and palmoplantar keratinization of the arms and exterrator surfaces of the limbs.

Sexually hereditary ichthyosis

Onset from birth to 1 year of age. Large, brownish-black scales are scattered on both sides of the face, neck, and scalp, and the ventral side of the trunk is more severe than the dorsal side, and the elbows, wrists, and popliteal fossa can also be affected. Almost all of them are male, and the rash remains almost unchanged throughout life.

Laminar ichthyosis

Autosomal recessive inheritance, onset at birth or shortly after birth, rash is large gray-brown scales, quadrilateral, central adhesive edge free, diffuse erythema all over the body, mild cases only occur in the cubital fossa, popliteal fossa and neck. The palmoplantar is moderately hyperkeratinized, and the follicular mouth is volcanic. Some patients present with face valgus.

Epidermolytic hyperkeratosis

Autosomal dominant inheritance. At birth, the skin is red, with thick scales like armor, and there can be blisters, and the scales can fall off and new scales can form.
